For many years, images of the the clustered galaxies of Stephan’s Quintet have suggested interactions that should not be taking place, at least not according to the assumptions of standard cosmology. As Thunderbolts colleague Mel Acheson explains, Stephan’s Quintet invalidates the cornerstone of Big Bang and expanding-universe cosmology: the assumption that redshift gives a reliable basis for calculating velocity and deducing an object’s present distance.
