Here we consider a 21st Century solution to the question of how the Grand Canyon was formed based on Earthly evidence, data gathered by space probes, and over a hundred years of experimental work in plasma laboratories.
The Grand Canyon has often been compared in form, if not size, to the gigantic canyons of Valles Marineris on Mars. Both on Earth and Mars these canyons seem to have been cut cleanly into a raised flat surface, with extremely little collateral damage to that surface. This is one of many such anomalies.
The strong similarities between the valley networks and the tributaries of Valles Marineris, like that of the Grand Canyon, are simply because they were formed by the same process—the cosmic electric discharge.
