David Talbott: Mythology as Undiscovered History | EU2017

In David Talbott’s EU2017: Future Science conference presentation, he examines a protocol for cross-cultural investigation, then offers an objective standard to a field of study where expert scholars assume to be hopelessly subjective.

His claim is that world-wide mythology speaks for ‘real’ history, although only in the sense that every archetype or cross-cultural theme has its referent in the extraordinary celestial phenomena our ancient ancestors witnessed in the sky—then interpreted using the language and logic of their times.

So, is it really possible to identify extraordinary natural events hidden within a carnival of ancient myths and symbols? The answer may lie within our global collective memory of archetypal themes.

David Talbott is the Founder and Director of The Thunderbolts Project. His perennial work “The Saturn Myth” (Doubleday, 1980) was a forerunner to a broader understanding of comparative mythology. David also co-authored two classic books with Thunderbolts Project co-Founder Wal Thornhill, “Thunderbolts of the Gods” (2005) and “The Electric Universe” (2007).
