Dear EU Friends,

Yes, this newsletter is a day late.  Seems that inclement weather held up our editor on her travels.

Yesterday we posted a video “Remembering the American Hero John Glenn” on the groundbreaking career of astronaut John Glenn. He died on December 8, drawing international attention to a remarkable personality and a life lived with determination, infectious optimism, and devotion to service. Long before his death at age 95, Glenn had not just fulfilled his childhood dreams but left an enduring legacy in both public and private life.

Safe travels to all through this holiday season!

Starburst Galaxy Surprises Astronomers | Space News

According to a recent press release, galaxy NGC 1222 is a “peculiar example” of lenticular galaxy. It is peculiar because lenticular galaxies are supposed to have used up the material available for new stars to form. NGC 1222, on the other hand, is described as a “starburst” galaxy, since new stars are said to be forming at a surprising rate.

Was it a rock that collided with Earth? North America is home to many craters that are said to be formed by asteroids. As a previous Picture of the Day pointed-out, one of those craters is thought by consensus geologists to be the remains of an impact that wiped-out the dinosaurs.
Motor Function by Stephen Smith
Dec 16, 2016

Electricity powers galactic disks. Electric Universe advocates argue that galaxies act like a device invented by Michael Faraday more than a hundred years ago, the homopolar motor. A homopolar motor is driven by magnetic fields induced in a circular, conductive metal plate.
