I think that's one of few time that I've seen the mainstream use the term "electrified' with respect to coronal loops. I don't think any EU/PC proponents are surprised by the smaller sized 'strands". The entire surface of the electrode is covered with fine filaments. Most of them simply aren't large enough to rise above the surface of the photosphere and into the corona.Until now, certain parts of the Sun's atmosphere had appeared dark or mostly empty, but new images have revealed strands that are around 500km in width—roughly the distance between London and Belfast—with hot electrified gases flowing inside them.
Now if they'd just acknowledge the electric *field* that sustains them, I might actually be impressed.
