Zeihan has a different geopolitical perspective than those I usually see on Youtube, so I don't trust that his view is accurate, but he says Russia could put something in low Earth orbit that could explode and have a shotgun effect that could damage everything in low Earth orbit, making it unusable, and then the ISS would no longer be safe or habitable and I guess missions to the Moon and Mars might no longer be possible. Offhand, that scenario seems plausible and I'm surprised that I've never heard of that possibility before.

Here's a quote from the video.
"And if you do that {blow up a few satellites} and you cause the shotgun effect of high velocity debris, it's Mach 25. It doesn't require taking out too many satellites to cause a cascade reaction that basically makes low Earth orbit unusable for several years." Mach 25 is 76,000 km/h = 8.6 km/s.

That's a possibility that's not fun to contemplate. Maybe there could be a solution for it, but it seems likely that it would be a very difficult solution to carry out. It's like the sword of Damocles for satellites. It seems like that will always be a prospect, no matter how much progress is made in space. If any country or tech company with satellite launching capability thinks they could profit by doing it, or if they just want to cripple space progress for any reason, it could easily be done at any time.
