Crowdfunding research projects

Has science taken a wrong turn? If so, what corrections are needed? Chronicles of scientific misbehavior. The role of heretic-pioneers and forbidden questions in the sciences. Is peer review working? The perverse "consensus of leading scientists." Good public relations versus good science.

Crowdfunding research projects

Post by mamuso » Sun Apr 15, 2012 3:29 pm

I've found a new crowdfunding aimed at research projects.

https://www.microryza.com

I think it would be interesting to consider submitting some small EU related project and see what happens.

Any ideas?

I think it would make a lot of sense for the players in this field like the esteemed Dave Talbott and Wal Thornhill to think more along these lines than trying to sell DVD's to a handful of acolytes and the curious like it's still the 1990's.

Crowd-funding is the future for anyone serious about amassing the resources to start publicizing and legitimizing this science. Broadly gathered small donations are the future.

I sent an email to Dave Talbott detailing the high success of these forms of funding for research (and for themselves) but the letter was not given a response.

(May have been because the primary suggestion was to stop charging money for DVD content that should be streaming online free--if the intent is to gain new advocates of the science, that is.)

Pay walls are inappropriate and erase widespread availability of the content.

Free knowledge is righteous knowledge.

The money will follow as support grows, which it would.

I totally agree.
It's far more likely that I spend 20$ in supporting some specific research than buying a DVD or a book.
Tangible goods are not so charming nowadays. And science related information should be free.

Although a bit OT, as the thread was for "research projects", not science popularization, in that front I would try to do the things on reverse. Instead of spending money making it, and then charging people to get the DVD, try to get the money first by crowdfunding, and then release it for free. The same for an eBook.

I don't know if people thinks the same than I and will "invest" on such things, but giving it a try it's only a question of writing down the things you're going to do next and make it into a project. If it does not get the money to start with, it's a useful way of avoiding mind scattering at least. And you get a feel of what people is willing to see done.

Example project:
Symbols of an Alien Sky 3

Can you see any disadvantage?

Personally, I think this is a great idea.
I think this project would have most succes, if you didn't go to that site, but rather acquire professionals from here: thunderbolts.info. You could gather funds on this website (members (and non-members too) can donate if they want to), while also of course taking care that the research hold place by competent people whom you pay with these funds. it is like imminst.org where funds are collected for research, and it turns out to be a success every time. So I would be appalled if it would not be a success, given how active this forum is.

I have an idea. Use a charge arc furnace for experiments.

Try to make geodes and other rocks in question.

Try to recreate landscapes we see.

I'm sure there has to be some in north america, outsourcing seems to be a method of stifling civil war
which seems to be a direct result of exporting, as well as de facto insurgence of the de jure.
(not to get off topic, just saying-lets not start a debate)
wow, look how bright that star is!

Rupert Sheldrake is using some these kind of research methods
Exploration and discovery without honest investigation of "extraordinary" results leads to a Double Bind (Bateson, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_bind ) that creates loss of hope and depression. No more Double Binds !
