I recently replaced my trusty 20-year-old Panasonic 9.6v cordless drill with a 12v lith/ion model from Rigid. The torque and raw long-lasting power it delivers is truly impressive!
Those very same batteries are now fueling the fastest street-legal
electric dragster in the world!
It's always nice to see cool stuff coming out of my old stomping ground, Portland, Oregon!

It's all about perception.

Incredibly cool! I have about 500 Li-Ions waiting in a box to one day fuel my own designed electric vehicle.
Did you know that at the time of Nicola Tesla electric cars were actually quite common...
First, God decided he was lonely. Then it got out of hand. Now we have this mess called life...

Electric cars came first, I believe.
I know that I can use Lithium Ion batteries from cordless drills for my RC submarines.
Way to go Steven, make a electric car.
I have investigated electric conversion kits for Ford F10 trucks, only takes $7000
runs on pennies a month.

I am going to deck out a landcruiser with as many batteries as I can. So I find your $7,000 for an electrical conversion rather curious. The lithium battery packs at $5,000 each would lose $ value too quickly. But they look at least a quarter the size and weight of the other batteries. Off to the desert looking for tektites !! Maybe.

Link to conversion kits and average cost.

And lithium-ion batteries make pretty good rocket motors, if you get them angry

And behold the power of ...
HOT PANTS! Gives new meaning to electrical shorts.

There is something beyond our mind which abides in silence within our mind. It is the supreme mystery beyond thought. Let one's mind and one's subtle body rest upon that and not rest on anything else. [---][/---] Maitri Upanishad

Electric cars? They've been around a while.
Duncan and Brady
Twinkle, twinkle, twinkle, little star
Up comes Brady in a 'lectric car
Got a mean look all 'round his eye
Gonna shoot somebody jus' to see them die
Duncan, Duncan was tending the bar
In walked Brady with a shining star
And Brady says, "Duncan you are under arrest
And Duncan shot a hole in Brady's breast.
Brady, Brady carried a '45,
Said it would shoot half a mile,
Duncan had a '44
That what laid Mr. Brady so low.
Brady fell down on the barroom floor,
"Please Mr. Duncan don' shoot me no more
Women all cryin, ain't it a shame,
Shot King Brady, goin' shoot him again.
"Brady, Brady, Brady, you know you done wrong
Walkin' in the room when the game was goin' on
Knockin down windows, breakin' down the door
Now you lyin' dead on the grocery [barroom] floor.
Women all heard that Brady was dead,
Goes back home and they dresses in red.
Come a snifflin' and a sighin' down the street,
In their big mother hubbards and their stockin' feet.
Recorded by Leadbelly, Dylan and many others with variations on the lyric.
Supposedly relates an actual incident in New Orleans in 1880:

I will follow the great Way alone
and fear nothing but being sidetracked.
