The better we can see, the further we. Can see. If only we would discard our 1960’s fables, and go towork, instead of leaning back on the comforting theories that filled our professional rice bowls up to now. Fortunately my profession was teaching teenagers, so I headed off a lot of foolish thinking. Then I got old.

Hubble Tension Confirmed

Our universe appears to be expanding about eight percent faster than initially assumed possible, according to new observations from the James Webb Space Telescope.

… snip …

Now, according to a new paper in The Astrophysical Journal, new measurements from Webb have confirmed that the Hubble tension isn't due to some flaw in our observations, but instead potentially due to the influence of dark matter and dark energy.

"The discrepancy between the observed expansion rate of the universe and the predictions of the standard model suggests that our understanding of the universe may be incomplete," study co-author Adam Riess, a Nobel laureate and professor of physics and astronomy at Johns Hopkins University, said in a statement.

"With two NASA flagship telescopes now confirming each other's findings, we must take this [Hubble tension] problem very seriously—it's a challenge but also an incredible opportunity to learn more about our universe."

… snip …

Therefore, the Hubble tension must be due to unknown gaps in our knowledge of the physics of the universe.

Black holes driving the universe's expansion?

While Mr Reiss and his colleagues search for answers, a study published last month claimed that black holes were driving the expansion of the universe instead of dark energy.

For a long time, scientists have believed in the inflationary universe theory which states that almost 14 billion years ago, at the start of the Big Bang, a mysterious energy, believed to be dark energy, accelerated the expansion of the infant universe.

However, the radical new study challenges this notion. After analysing data from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), scientists claimed that the density of dark matter increased over time which agrees with how the amount and mass of black holes increased as the universe aged.
Say what?

Sounds like the gnomists may need a new gnome if they want to keep the dark energy AND dark matter cash cows alive.

Just saying ...
