We Don't Know If Dark Matter Exists. So Why Do Astronomers Keep Looking?

Because if dark matter isn't real, then the behaviour of the stars, planets and galaxies makes little sense.
I offer an alternative explanation. It’s so they can keep taking billions of dollars a year from taxpayers in order to live in big houses, own expensive cars, eat at great restaurants, go on fabulous vacations, build up large retirement accounts, send their children to fancy schools, possess luxurious clothes and jewelry, and otherwise live the good life. Because the truth is that whether DM exist or not, it probably won’t otherwise affect the rest of us at all.
