Thank you very much Brigit. Section 4.7 says it all I think.
Basically they are using the reflection (wavefront) as their measuring tool and filter/adjustment for bad mirror spots. This mirror check runs every two days, so they are not sensing/monitoring actual impact, just the after effects in a 2-day window. Only 1 hit caused damage, the rest have been surface deformation. They only describe things in 'light' terms so it's hard to quantify physical properties. or maybe they really are holding these mirrors with nano-meter precision and the object hit them are 'micro' sized.

Check it out. Who remembers the size of each hexagon mirror? :)
Supposedly NASA image used to 'check' the mirrors. The large black line shadow is one of the arms.

I'm curious that nobody has jumped on this picture in my first link. It's obviously a genuine picture imho.
And the questions it raises are enormous. Segue to what we've learned from The Dark Sky and The Dark Moon. What wavelength, exposure time, filters, etc. I don't know anything else about this picture and haven't researched it.
But, zoom in 500% and do Relief More, and tell me you don't see the surface of the Sun-like. Except it can't be the Sun's surface, no way, Yet, there it is.
Then flip the colors around so you can see those large circle 'systems' which seem to stand out above the general chaos. Three of them

Are these not the most perfect mirrors man as created? Look at these 'reflections'?
