The Death of Science

Has science taken a wrong turn? If so, what corrections are needed? Chronicles of scientific misbehavior. The role of heretic-pioneers and forbidden questions in the sciences. Is peer review working? The perverse "consensus of leading scientists." Good public relations versus good science.

The Death of Science

By Victor Davis Hanson

The scientific method used to govern much of popular American thinking.

In empirical fashion, scientists advised us to examine evidence and data, and then by induction come to rational hypotheses. The enemies of "science" were politics, superstition, bias and deduction.

Yet we are now returning to our version of medieval alchemy and astrology in rejecting a millennium of the scientific method.

Take the superstitions that now surround COVID-19.
(BAC - yes, snip a good case that the mainstream has abandoned science in its treatment of COVID-19)
"Critical race theory" would preposterously tell us that we need racism to fight racism.

"Critical legal theory" ludicrously claims that laws have no rational basis but simply reflect power inequities.

"Modern monetary theory" defies millennia of evidence and basic logic in stating that governments can simply print money without worrying about balancing expenditures with revenues or inflating the currency to ruination.
AND ...

*Scientists* promoting CO2 hatred defy a mountain of evidence proving CO2 is not the demon they’ve claimed.

*Scientists* promoting Big Fusion defy a mountain of evidence that the sun doesn’t behave the way they think.

*Scientists* promoting the zoo of gnomes called modern astrophysics/cosmology ignore all evidence that their gnomes don’t exist, while simultaneously ignoring the evidence it is electromagnetic effects on plasma, as much as gravity, that dominate the observations we see in the universe.

Yes, I think Victor Davis Hanson is right on target when he declares …
Science is dying; superstition disguised as morality is returning. And we'll all soon become poorer, angrier and more divided.
I fear for the future.

Gee ... a OP on the future of science in a thread titled "the future of science" gets not a single reply on this forum?

Why is that?

Maybe it's because you've already accepted that science is dead?

Maybe it's proof of what the authors of the book discussed in the following article ...

https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog ... nge-denial
Climate Change Denial
Facing a reality too big to believe.
... that denial can be the response when facing a reality that is too big ... to face? Maybe you just can't face the notion that Science Is Dead? Certainly the idea that science is dead is something bound to shake up scientists or those who believe in science ... real science.

But the response of Matt Huston and the authors of the book he reviews above should worry all of you, even if you accept science is dead. Because they are doing to those who question AGWalarmism just what dark matter supporters have done to those who question their *religion*. They are branding them psychologically sick. And that is the tactic of people who cannot argue the facts but hold the high ground power-wise.

First, they declare, without proof, that
there are also many points that are clear and not subject to legitimate debate. We can affirm without doubt that anthropogenic climate change is a real phenomenon that is already apparent and will, if not mitigated, cause terrible suffering and destruction before this century is over.
I'll challenge anyone here, who believes that statement is true, to a debate. Because it's not true. It's a lie pushed by people with an agenda that has nothing to do with science or the actual facts ... just like the agenda the mainstream astrophysics community is pushing. And the nuclear fusion community. And the Covid Vaccine community. All supposed *big science* issues.

Second, they state ...
A recent report from the United Nations-sponsored Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change tells us we can still hope to avert some of the catastrophic consequences of climate change, but only if we “abandon coal and other fossil fuels in the next decade or two." Scientists may disagree about how fast the atmosphere is warming or what the best solutions are, but except for a small number of outliers, none doubt that we are rapidly approaching climate catastrophe.
... which is another LIE, designed only to give them a reason to dismiss out of hand or ignore all those who question their religion. Which they do. This attitude is the same as that of the mainstream astrophysics community. And the nuclear fusion community. And the pro-Covid-vaccine community. And it's a very DANGEROUS attitude folks. Because they are the type of people who are running the country right now. They control the government and all of mainstream science efforts. And they are going to destroy civilization if they maintain that control. The folks who are pushing climate change garbage are now demanding you stop driving your car, eating meat, flying in planes, using natural gas, and produce all the electricity we use with non-existent *clean* power plants. If you think things are bad now, just wait if they manage to keep that control and enact those changes in the timeframe they demand. They will collapse the worldwide economy. They will collapse the health care system. And it will be the jungle, not the rule of law. So you folks better start paying attention to the bigger issue here that the death of science portends.
