I've become rather fascinated by Joe Atwill's thesis that the Gospels were a literary project of the Vespasian family, and written as a kind of dark satire. However, I don't think Joe understands the ancient provenance of the archetypes and how these loaded the dice for everyone producing literature at the turn of the "Common Ear" (the era of mass phonetic communication). The following is an interview with James Valliant, who is one of those influenced by Atwill's thesis, and in it he specifies what he takes to be the origins of certain symbols in late antiquity that's quite interesting, even though he also doesn't quite grasp the ultimate provenance:

Nice Age that, Electricity... On the other hand, anything that starts with Gospel means Religion, which is just about as real as Politics. Both equally full of shit.By Robert K. Logan, PhD
McLuhan, building on the ideas of Innis, divided human history into three distinct periods based on the modes of sensibilities their media made available to them. The first era, that of the oral tradition, stretches from the time humankind first acquired speech to the beginnings of literacy five thousand years ago. The second era, the age of literacy, includes the period from the invention of writing to the discovery of electricity and its use in the form of the telegraph.
interstellar filaments conducted electricity having currents as high as 10 thousand billion amperes

Well, you're at least going to have to suffer politics for the rest of your life. Politics and religion were once the same thing, but the state only became separate from religious authority some time between the 12th and 15th century, and only in part of the world. The crux of the matter for McLuhan, who was himself a devout Catholic, was that good religion and good politics are only possible with a balanced sensorium: one in which no single sense dominates, and each complements the others.Cargo wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 6:31 am https://mcluhangalaxy.wordpress.com/201 ... han-innis/Nice Age that, Electricity...
