Using a network of radio telescopes on Earth and in space, astronomers have captured the most detailed view ever of a jet of plasma shooting from a supermassive black hole at the heart of a distant galaxy.
The jet, which comes from the heart of a distant blazar called 3C 279, travels at nearly the speed of light and shows complex, twisted patterns near its source. These patterns challenge the standard theory that has been used for 40 years to explain how these jets form and change over time.
Look at the image of the jet in the article. It’s a helically wound jet. Indeed, the article states “The jet has at least two twisted filaments of plasma extending more than 570 light-years from the center.” So, yes, it most definitely challenges the standard theory. And the article goes on to say …
The astronomers studying these twists in 3C279, called helical filaments, found that they were caused by instabilities developing in the jet plasma. .... snip ... new theoretical models are needed that can explain how such helical filaments form and evolve so close to the jet origin.
There may be instabilities, but these *scientists* must be utterly stupid not to know that pairs of current carrying filaments … and these most assuredly are carrying current … produce magnetic fields and naturally wind helically about each other. No “instabilities* or “forces around the black hole” are needed to produce this winding. They pulled those two explanations out of thin air and don’t actually have anything that proves what they claim.
Then they state
One particularly intriguing aspect arising from our results is that they suggest the presence of a helical magnetic field that confines the jet.
This is stupidity. Astrophysicists have admitted these plasma jets are fill with moving charges. In the laboratory and in computer models, paired filaments composed of moving charges, produce magnetic fields and wind about each other. These *scientists* seem to think the magnetic field was there before the jet but don't have a clue where it came from.
Next they say ...
Similar helical filaments were observed in extragalactic jets before, but on much larger scales where they are believed to result from different parts of the flow moving at different speeds and shearing against each other
They think the jets and their structure are due to turbulence and mechanical forces. What STUPIDITY. And you know what comes next … they’ll ask for lots more money from taxpayers to confirm their never-ending stupidity. Because they’ve done it over and over the last 50 years. Why do you think they live in such nice houses and can send their kids to the best ... most expensive ... Ivy League schools? They know how to work a scam ... just like the climate change community does.
Finally, note ... here’s a link to the paper:
https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.01861 . Nowhere in it do the 30 astrophysicists feeding off the tax paying public prove a cause for the helical winding. In fact, they note that the previously accepted explanation for helical jets … namely, “anchoring the filaments to the outer accretion disk to allow for a subluminal propagation of the helical pattern” implies “a exceedingly large (Keplerian) disk radius, that is, larger than ∼ 1 light-year,
about two orders of magnitude larger than the expected disk sizes.” That discrepancy should be enough to make them go back to the drawing board.
But instead, they apply a patch. They propose that the helical winding “
might be associated with the triggering and development of flow instabilities.” They say “Current-driven kink or Kelvin-Helmholtz (KH) instabilities are the most plausible mechanisms capable of developing such helical structures.” They must be totally unaware of the work that’s been done by plasma physicists and cosmologists in labs and with sophisticated computer models to explain the existence of helically wound pairs of plasma filaments. What a sad commentary on the state of mainstream astrophysics education. Or do modern astrophysicists love the scam they're running so much there could care less about the science?
