Dean was always a lively contributor to our boards, with a unique perspective on most everything. Some would say he had a level of genius few possessed, others simply that they couldn't understand a word he said. Whatever your perspective, I know I speak for us all when I say that Dean will be very sorely missed on this forum. Our heartfelt sympathies go to his family and many friends.

Don't stand by my grave and weep,
For I am not there.
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond's glint in the snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
In the soft blush of the morning light
I am the swift bird in flight.
Don't stand by my grave and cry,
I am not there,
I did not die.

Unknown Native American Author

My condolences to his family and to his friends. To all of us who knew him by whatever measure.

Out of my deeper heart a bird rose and flew skyward.
Higher and higher did it rise, yet larger and larger did it grow.
At first it was but like a swallow, then a lark, then an eagle,
then as vast as a spring cloud, and then it filled the starry heavens.
Out of my heart a bird flew skyward.
And it waxed larger as it flew.
Yet it left not my heart.

Gibran.

Silence
There are some qualities- some incorporate things,
That have a double life, which thus is made
A type of that twin entity which springs
From matter and light, evinced in solid and shade.
There is a two-fold Silence- sea and shore-
Body and soul. One dwells in lonely places,
Newly with grass o'ergrown; some solemn graces,
Some human memories and tearful lore,
Render him terrorless: his name's "No More."
He is the corporate Silence: dread him not!
No power hath he of evil in himself;
But should some urgent fate (untimely lot!)
Bring thee to meet his shadow (nameless elf,
That haunteth the lone regions where hath trod
No foot of man,) commend thyself to God!
-by E.A.P.

What a beautiful mind has passed. Rest in peace Dean.

From too much love of living,
From hope and fear set free,
We thank with brief thanksgiving
Whatever gods may be
That no life lives for ever;
That dead men rise up never;
That even the weariest river
Winds somewhere safe to sea.

(selected verse, The Garden of Proserpine, Swinburne, 1923

We'll miss you, Dean; you've left a very empty chair at the table.

What a beautiful request from Dean that we celebrate his life rather than dwell on his passing.

Some words of wisdom from our departed friend.
Then you will see that when the filters are cleared (shut down for a while), that we are all connected. PS this is just the way it is and I believe that the filters allow us to maintain sanity. If your open all the time, your spiritual existance needs to grow up...and most of us are children in adult bodies.

Dean seemed well prepared for that great gig in the sky.

Shine on you crazy diamond!

The seal of Solomon in three dimensions

O wretched race of men, to space confined !
What honour shall ye pay to him whose mind
To that which lies beyond hath penetrated !
The symbols he hath formed shall sound his praise,
And lead him on through unimagined ways
To conquests new in worlds not yet created.

First, ye determinants in ordered row
And massive column ranged before him go,
To form a phalanx for his safe protection.
Ye powers of the nth roots of - 1,
Around his head in endless cycles run,
As disembodied spirits of direction.

And yon ye undevelopable scroles,
Above the host wave your emblazoned rolls,
Ruled for the record of his bright inventions.
Ye cubic surfaces, by threes and nines,
Draw round his camp your seven-and-twenty lines,
The seal of Solomon in three dimensions.

March on, symbolic host, with step sublime,
Up to the flaming bounds of space and time;
There halt, until, by Dickenson depicted
In two dimensions, we the form may trace
Of him whose mind, too large for vulgar space,
In n dimensions flourished unrestricted.

on to the next life our friend. not sure if even infinite universes and infinite dimensions would be enough opportunites to enjoy your spirit, energy and thinking.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right doing there is a field. I'll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk about. Ideas, language, even the phrase "each other" doesn't make any sense.

Dear Brother JL,

Because of you, I know what Brillouin-Enhanced Four-Wave Mixing and Phase Conjugation is. You made me think of things that I would normally not have thought about... and for that- I will always be grateful to you!

Consciousness is Energy. Energy can never be destroyed- it can only change Form.

If this is so, then maybe I will see you again some day, buddy! :)

Your friend always,

Mike

I must admit I didn't know him well and only had a few private e-conversations with him but he had quite an impact.

When I first heard of this my initial reaction was that of great sadness, but then a smirk crept across my face as I recalled his views on life and death and everything in-between and began wondering how much he must be enjoying being free to explore and understand his universe in a whole new way now.

But now I've returned to sadness as I know it is unlikely I will meet anyone again who can provoke my intellect and imagination as greatly so as he did and I am going to miss having his input on virtually any and all subject matters. It's an even greater loss for those who will never have the opportunity to engage him directly.

But the good news is that he left a long record of his thoughts and views here on TB to allow for him to continue pushing and provoking people's minds for a long time to come.

Thank you Dean/JL, I may not have agreed with all of your views but I always had great respect for them and they always pushed me to keep searching and to never dismiss any plausible idea and to just always keep an open mind.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Jonny
The difference between a Creationist and a believer in the Big Bang is that the Creationists admit they are operating on blind faith... Big Bang believers call their blind faith "theoretical mathematical variables" and claim to be scientists rather than the theologists they really are.

I really don't know what to say. I feel so fortunate to have only briefly (this year) to have meet a force such as Junglelord. Having progressed through the boy-meets-EU experience, I was not at all prepared to ride with Kings such as Dean. His warm, yet direct lectures both here and privately, opened me to lessons of ego, ether and existence. Many questions i never knew existed, were raised from within by this great man.

Although a short sitting, the pleasure remains truly mine (ours) brother.

I still have many many notes, emails, questions and a bookshelf of recommended material sent to me by Dean, an incredibly generous man. You, Junglelord, will be there with me, at every turn of the page as we continue on our exploration.

>A standing ovation<
Your friend,
Alex
