Electromagnetic fields power GRB's

Magnetic Power Revealed In Gamma-Ray Burst Jet
The Liverpool Telescope has used a unique scientific camera (named RINGO) to measure the polarization of the light from a Gamma Ray Burst and show that strong magnetic fields are responsible for beaming the light towards the Earth.
"Theoreticians predicted that such a magnetic field is generated in the central fireball and accelerates GRB jets to almost the speed of light," explained Dr. Shiho Kobayashi of the LJMU GRB research team "Now the existence of strong magnetic fields has been shown to be correct."

"This breakthrough observation gives us the first measurement of magnetic fields in the afterglow of a GRB" said Swift lead scientist Neil Gehrels at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.
Again with the fireball stuff. But wait, there's an electric light in this tunnel.
"These very interesting observations raise the possibility that gamma ray bursts are not fireballs as usually presumed but are powered and collimated by organized electromagnetic field," added Professor Roger Blandford F.R.S., Director of the Kavli Institute of Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology at Stanford University.
They seem to be using the "E" word more often these days. 8-)
“Today's scientists have substituted mathematics for experiments, and they wander off through equation after equation, and eventually build a structure which has no relation to reality"

Magnetic Power Revealed in Gamma-Ray Burst Jet

Seems that magnetic field is dominant in what was previously assumed to be just a big explosion.

"These very interesting observations raise the possibility that gamma-ray bursts are not fireballs as usually presumed but are powered and collimated by an organized electromagnetic field," said Roger Blandford, Director of the Kavli Institute of Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology at Stanford University, California, commenting on the result's importance. "It will be very interesting to see if there are similarities in observations of other kinds of cosmic jets."

From the article,
http://www.spacedaily.com/reports/Magne ... t_999.html
Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) form when the core of a massive star collapses or two neutron stars merge together. The resulting explosions are the brightest events in the Universe, vastly outshining entire galaxies containing hundreds of billions of stars.
The Electric Universe interpretation explains GRB's as a massive electrical discharge. But the redshift=distance assumption misleads mainstream cosmologists into thinking they are looking at something of unfathomable power from a remote distance, when actually these objects are much closer and consequently less energetic. The powerful magnetic fields are a tip off, as they should lead us to conclude that there are also powerful electric (Birkeland) currents at work.
This GRB and its “host” galaxy are closer, probably much closer, than standard theory calculates. The energy of the GRB is therefore much less than standard theory calculates. The small, faint “host” galaxy doesn’t appear small and faint because it’s far away but because it really is small and faint.

Even if it were at its conventional distance, and even if it did have its conventional energy, plasma mechanisms—that is, electrical discharge mechanisms—could provide the necessary density of energy with processes that can be studied in laboratory settings. (Black holes and neutron stars are exclusively manipulations of mathematics and have no empirical counterparts.)

plasma_focus.jpg
The dense plasma focus, first invented in 1954, consists of two coaxial cylindrical electrodes usually less than 30 cm in all dimensions in a gas-filled vacuum chamber connected to a capacitor bank. It is capable of producing high-energy X-ray and gamma-ray radiation and intense beams of electrons and ions, as well as abundant fusion reactions. In operation, the capacitors discharge in a several-microsecond pulse, the gas is ionized and a current sheath, consisting of pinched current filaments, forms and runs down the electrodes.

Although the following quote addresses the alleged BH at the center of most galaxies, the same logic (trying to explain electric phenomena with mechanical forces) applies to GRB's.
Wal Thornhill wrote:No peculiar physics, strange matter or singularities (infinities) are involved in the plasma focus model of galactic centers. Black holes are not required. Matter in the vicinity of the galactic center is under the control of powerful electromagnetic forces. Gravitational calculations of stellar masses and motions in the galactic center are inappropriate and misleading. During the time that energy is being efficiently stored in the tiny central plasmoid, the galactic center is quiescent. Jets are only produced when the plasmoid becomes unstable. The periodic outbursts from a galactic plasmoid can briefly release more energy than all of the stars in the galaxy. Precisely the same effect is achieved in the high-energy plasma lab, like that at Los Alamos, where more instantaneous power than is available from all of the power stations on Earth can be released in a volume the size of a baked bean can. Who, in their right mind, would try to achieve a similar effect by (in effect) dropping a great mass from a great height?

I do love that scientific term "fireball"! The collimated jets organized by electromagnetic conditions should be a tip-off for any physicist who can fog a mirror that what can create GRB's might just also serve to create collimated jets extending out of galaxies and synchrotron radiation and so on. I guess they can only be whupped upside dey heads so many times with the obvious before they either pass out or start to repeat EU historical observations about cause and effect. Doh!!

G'day from the land of ozzzzzz

What a small world.

I was asked to read on Reverse Magnetic fields of Planets, stars and Jets.

Darn and Xmas is at the door.

I have 3 months to write a report.

It will take me 3 months just to get an understanding.

So if anybody has info, just post it.

Giday, Harry,
I don't quite understand the nature of the question. Are they wanting a discussion on reversing magnetic fields, or reversed magnetic fields, or possibly reversal of magnetic fields in these two bodies and one phenomenon? This forum may be able to provide a lot of links and information if we understand where this is supposed to be going - i.e., besides the beginning and middle of the story, what is the ending - the desired result, here? How do they want you to correlate the magnetic fields of cosmic bodies with jets, a rather different physical and electromagnetic environment, or do they want to see tie-ins? Jets are likely closer to stars in terms of both consisting in major part of plasmas, whereas planetary conditions, while they nearly always exhibit or contain plasma effects, are not largely plasmas like stellar bodies and their effects. There is a major step in scale between these two components, even though it can be fairly successfully argued that there is a good probability that there is a continuum down from large stars to smaller stars to M dwarfs to large "hot gas" giants or "failed stars, to Jupiter and Saturn sized cold gas giants and so forth.

As to jets, which EU adherents see as common circuit elements at almost any scale, those may be related among planets and stars as pathways for recirculating (hence, circuits, "circles") currents, whether auroral or stellar or galactic. Wherever there are electric currents/fields,, thar be magnetic fields. Reverse magnetic fields? Reverse relative to what?
