Hi,
This is the EU position on white dwarfs > "White dwarfs are stars with a low luminosity coronal discharge only"
This tells why they can be any spectral type but are very dim, EU position extended:
"A white dwarf is a star whose discharge current is satisfied by all the approaching electrons, drift electrons plus those that randomly move towards the anode. it has no anode tufting. It is rather like moving a low energy corona of a main sequence star down into the atmosphere of the white dwarf star. That is why the dim star Sirius B is brighter in x-rays than Sirius A because the corona emits x-rays"
But white dwarfs are also very small (radius similar to Earth), i could not find anything from EU literature what EU thinks about this or why they are so small...anybody?
Regards,
Daniel

Re: White Dwarfs
ps found it>
White ‘dwarfs’ are not dwarfs at all. They are faint, not because they are small but because they produce their light in a different mode of plasma discharge from stars like the Sun. The current density scale for white dwarfs is different to that of the main sequence and this is why they are scattered along a lower-luminosity sequence

EU says they are not small at all, just seem small because they are faint.
