Rapid Continental Drift between Greenland and Canada
I just posted the above sci news links, then I found an interesting comment at https://www.reddit.com/r/askscience/com ... in_created, which says:
Were the Great Lakes (and Michigan basin) created due to a meteor crater being present as the glaciers receded? self.askscience
submitted 1 year ago * by TinBurner
I was looking at aquifers and their relationship to fracking sites when I noticed the aquifer under Michigan looked like a crater impact site. Is that possible? If it is, could that be why the Great Lakes formed where they did as the glaciers receded?
link: http://pubs.usgs.gov/ha/ha730/ch_j/jpeg/J007.jpeg
I forwarded that to Mike Fischer of NewGeology.us and told him I noticed Hudson's Bay is nearby and seems to be a larger impact and it looks like Greenland was perhaps broken loose from Canada by that impact and drifted away a little, similar to the way the impact north of Madagascar apparently caused the supercontinent to break up and rapid drifting apart of the continents. So the Hudson's Bay impact would have been at a late stage of the supercontinent-breakup impact.

Reply regarding previous post.
As yet, I have not seen support for Michigan being an impact site, although their Mesozoic strata are missing. On the other hand, I am not the first to have recognized impact craters in Hudson Bay. C. S. Beals suggested it in a Canadian mining report in 1968, but other researchers found no shock products or ejecta there, so the idea was dropped. John Klasner and two others made the case in 1981 based on a gravity anomaly map (abstract attached). Then Michael Brookfield raised the idea again in 2003. I agree with them, and as you can see in the attached image, there are signature central peaks in the more recent gravity anomaly map (note that light colors are higher while dark colors are lower). It is a larger version of a picture on ... website http://www.newgeology.us/presentation17.html. Despite all this, Hudson Bay is not considered an impact basin by most geologists. Their place in the Shock Dynamics theory is as impact basins in the protocontinent prior to the continent-dividing event. North America's move westward further opened the space they had made, while Greenland was left behind in the same way Cuba was detached in the Caribbean.

A LARGE-SCALE POSITIVE-GRAVITY ANOMALY IN NORTHEASTERN NORTH AMERICA: POSSIBLE EVIDENCE FOR LARGE-SCALE METEORITE IMPACT
John S. Klasner, Dept. of Geol., Western Illinois University and U.S. Geol. Surv., Macomb, IL 61-455; Wm. F. Cannon, U.S. Geol. Surv. National Center, MS. 954, Reston, VA 22092; K. J. Schulz, Dept. of Earth and Planetary Sciences, Washington Univ. and U.S. Geol. Surv., St. Louis, MO 63130

The Bouguer gravity anomaly map of northeastern North America has a large-amplitude positive-gravity anomaly of roughly 2,500 km. that encompasses the Superior Province of the Canadian Shield. It has a central low encircled by an annular zone of high gravity that decreases outward from about -20 to -70 mgals. The anomaly is interrupted by gravity signatures associated with the Grenville Province and Keweenawan rift and a positive gravity anomaly over Hudson Bay. Concentrically arranged foldbelts of Proterozoic rocks are parallel to the circular pattern. Most diatremes, kimberlite intrusions, carbonatite, and ultramafic bodies of the Superior Province lie beneath the annular high suggesting deep-crustal or upper-mantle petrologic affinities. Radiometric dating of Archean rocks indicate that the oldest rocks (ca. 3.-4-3.8 b.y. ) are found toward the outside of the gravity anomaly. There is no readily apparent near-surface feature that explains the total anomaly, thus suggesting that a large subjacent body of excess mass exists beneath the Superior Province. The major difference between the terrestrial anomaly and lunar mascons (l) is the central low associated with the earth's anomaly. A two-dimensional gravity model and hypothetical geologic cross section have been constructed to approximate crustal structure beneath the anomaly. Crustal thickness is on the order of 30 to 35 km. with the thickest part in the center. The gravity high is attributed to uplift of 3-0 gm/cc deep crustal rock beneath the center of the anomaly and to intrusion of relatively dense masses of ultramafic rock,.carbonatite, and" other rocks of deep crustal affinity into, the upper crust. The central gravity low is attributed to low density, subjacent granitic plutons mostly associated with greenstone-granite terrane. Intermediate density (2.8 gm/cc), tonalitic crust thickens outward from the central region of the gravity high to about 27 km. near the edge. Higher frequency positive-gravity anomalies are superimposed on the broad gravity high at the position of Proterozoic X basins. The crustal gravity and geologic model agrees well with previously proposed meteorite impact models (2,3) of- crustal evolution and structure. The intensely fractured central part of the impact structure is the area of highest gravity where dense basal crust is uplifted and intrusive bodies of deep crustal or upper mantle affinities are intruded into the highly fractured upper crust. Late stage felsic igneous activity following impact results in formation of subjacent granitic plutons and zones in the greenstone-granite terrane, mostly beneath the central low. Intermediate-stage igneous activity results in formation of relatively old tonalitic-gneissic crust. The oldest rocks are found toward the outer edge of the impact structure where the crust was least disturbed and where thermal and tectonic stability was most likely attained soon after impact relative to the central region. In structures of this size, however, an anomalous thermal regime may continue for as long as 10*2 years (3) below the major impact basin.

Lloyd,
I have long considered and spoken of the Hudson Bay region as suggestive of large impact crater[s].
Superficially, it is very similar to the Gulf of Mexico. From the same general viewpoint, the Pacific Basin has been hypothesized in the past as an impact site relative to the formation of the moon. Not so superficially the first two areas are indeed in the vicinity of known major astroblemes. However the currently existing geology does not strongly support the premise. I tend to think that the regions were possibly initially formed by shock waves from impacts, but subsequent overflow and runoff erosion from surrounding land has removed much of the decisive evidence that might demonstrate the areas are actually impact basins. I'm not sure the gravimetric data can be used as conclusive evidence; it is open to much guesswork. If I had to put my money down, I'd go with an impact basin association, but I can't claim it is more than speculation.

Impact craters? So we don't believe in large scale electrical/plasma events?

"Believe in" is an interesting/useful choice of words.
I prefer the term "astrobleme", but I use the term "impact" to include a variety of possible mechanisms:
1. Direct contact with a planetoid [asteroid, meteor or comet]
2. Mechanical shock from an exploding planetoid
3. Discharge from a planetoid before direct contact
4. EDM or interplanetary lightning
In terms of the evidence as I see it these are arranged by most simple to most exotic... as many EU-ers see it these are arranged in reverse order. So "believe in" is the key term.
I am open to more evidence as it comes in.

Just saw this one.
More evidence of this type could solidly confirm the Centropic Pressure Field Theory I espouse.
Particularly interesting that the "cloud pressure" is greater than the gravitational pressure being measured.
