I read the link.

Journal writing with very little information and understanding.

I'm surprised that one got past the sub editors.
First, we read that

The study published in the journal Nature suggests that most Type 1a supernovas are sparked by the merging of two white dwarf stars - the name given to the collapsed remnant of an old star.

yet later on in the same article, we further learn that

It is not clear whether merging is also the primary cause of supernovas in spiral galaxies.

Hmmm. So whilst it is "suggested" that it's all down to white dwarves, it's not actually clear.
When will they ever learn about Occam's Razor, I wonder??

Yet we see supernovas everywhere.

I submit, based on our own planetary alignments that two suns never merge. They will automatically repel one another, they can pass each other and influence each other, but they will NEVER merge. Thats a gravity driven model that is still grasping for straws....the strawman...If I only had a brain!
