Cool Solar Flare

Post by starbiter » Sun Jan 10, 2010 3:21 pm

http://www.solarcycle24.com/

If you scroll down to Solar Update on the right side you'll see Click here for Movie of Flair.

Solar Cycle 24 has a cool video of a Solar Flare. I don't know how long it will be available. I couldn't link directly. If anyone can make it last longer it would be great.
I'd like to see a mainstream explanation. If anyone would like to give a Magnetic Reconnection explanation please feel free.

Couldn't find it on your link. Maybe they updated and deleted it? 8:48 PST as of this note.

Bummer. It was cool. Maybe this thread should be removed. Sorry.

Go to this page:

http://sohodata.nascom.nasa.gov/cgi-bin ... ie_theater

Search for your desired date range and watch the solar activity (LASCO C3 is the wider field of view, while LASCO C2 is more of a close-up).

Hi Siggy,

From the thread title I thought you meant cool as in cold, now that would be interesting.
But alas, you meant awesome, wich solar flares are; studied, up close.

Regards,
Daniel
