Astronomy Recommendations

I'm currently at Keck for my first time and it raised some questions.
What do you think are the best places in the world for star gazing? And for amateur astronomy?
What astronomy texts/resources do you recommend?

I would say read something about Christiaan Huygens, i am partial to him as a fellow Dutch man, he was a very good astronomer and you can replicate what he saw/discovered with a telescope at home.

Mt. Shasta California! Ok, so maybe I'm a bit biased. :)

IMO the work by Kristian Birkeland, and by Hannes Alfven are the best places to begin if you're trying to understand EU/PC theory and how it is applied to the solar system and how circuit theory is applied to the universe. Cosmic Plasma by Hannes Alfven is a good place to begin IMO. The volumes by Kristian Birkeland are freely available online.
