Hi,
I believe that fission energy is far from a closed chapter. Our first attempt to produce power from fission energy mimics the A-bomb where neutrons spontaneously leaving large nuclei are used to bombard other nuclei to set up a chain reaction. Unfortunately, splitting a uranium atom this way often results in 92Kr and 141Ba, both nasty, unstable and radioactive isotopes.
Understanding the mechanism of strongforce suggests that we should be able to peel larger nuclei into successively smaller ones, by removing neutrons and protons one at a time and controlling the end product to for example 56Fe iron nuclei.
The envisioned process is a medium temperature plasma fission process where x-rays turned into gamma of the same frequency as the Coulomb strongforce bonds are used to set the bonds into resonance and medium velocity electrons between 1 and 10 MeV are used to knock neutrons and protons off the larger nuclei.

Regards,
Bengt
