Donald Scott: Cosmic Power Lines Part 1 | EU2015
I understand that Donald Scott wants to present those counter-rotating hurricanes at the poles of Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, as being caused by Birkeland currents. And he compares them to the aurora on Earth.
2 questions:
- What's the explanation for the lack of hurricanes at the south pole of those planets? Or did I misunderstood and there are even at the south pole?
- The aurora on Earth is not always on, also the aurora is a shiny light display, it looks different than the north pole of Saturn, does he mean to say that those counter rotating hurricanes are plasma, or gas clouds put into motion by Birkeland currents?
My own answer would be - perhaps Birkeland currents and their magnetic fields do really move the gas clouds, and maybe even the clouds and air on Earth (less obvious on Earth, more obvious on gas planets).

I believe polar vortices at the south poles have been confirmed in the cases where there has been a space probe in a position to observe them. Saturn comes to mind.

The Earth's version of polar vortices is probably the polar jet stream. Auroras of course are a related glow mode plasma phenomena.

Just in time a new picture of Saturn's south pole:
