The active surface jets on Enceladus collectively form a brilliant, extended plume that is made visible as sunlight scatters among the microscopic particles of ice. The plume is more easily seen with the Sun directly, or almost directly, behind Enceladus, as is the case here.

My appologies if this important "discovery" has already been the brunt of mirth and incredulity elsewhere on the forum.

I can't help it -- I always hear Krusty the Clown laughing in the background whenever I read stuff like this. And, is it just me, or are they (among other things) implying that "there may be parts of the universe" that travel superluminally in order to get where they are?

On second thought, skip it. I keep forgetting they just make this stuff up as they go...



Mainstream cosmology is obviously dying, for the simple fact that everything is going "Dark!"

Will this plasmid collapse on it self and create a solar system? Or a star? Could this be a natural Plasma Focus Device? Maybe in its first stages? Because I don't see a star in the center that is BLOWING the bubble up!

Yes... very plausible. What will NASA "discover" next? The Dark Side of the Force?

But that's the beauty of light, isn't it? No matter how fast an object is traveling away from us, its light still travels to us at the same speed. (Maybe my math is a fuzzy like Titan's atmosphere, but shouldn't that article read: "The farthest it could ever get is 27.4 billion light years in distance"? I thought they insist the universe is expanding?)

Birkland currents are a twisting plasma circuit. To my understanding, that means we have ions coming in at the poles, and some electrons heading out at the same time.

They knew that ions were coming in on the 'solar wind' but until now had never witnessed the electrons going back on the circuit to the Sun.

It would be nice if they differentiated WHERE electrons were seen flowing DOWNWARD toward the planet and WHERE electrons were seen flowing UPWARD away from the planet.

It's tempting to point out that Birkeland currents are EXPECTED to flow in circuit. Down one side of the circuit and back up the other.

When in 1973 the navy satellite Triad (see history) flew through this region in a low-altitude orbit, its magnetometer indeed detected the signatures of two large sheets of electric current, one coming down on the morning side of the auroral zone, one going up on the evening side, as expected. Because Kristian Birkeland had proposed long before currents which linked Earth and space in this fashion, they were named Birkeland currents ...
