Is the City of Rocks N. M. from an electric event?

Hundreds of TPODs have been published since the summer of 2004. In particular, we invite discussion of present and recent TPODs, perhaps with additional links to earlier TPOD pages. Suggestions for future pages will be welcome. Effective TPOD drafts will be MORE than welcome and could be your opportunity to become a more active part of the Thunderbolts team.

Is the City of Rocks N. M. from an electric event?

I offer the City of Rocks (a New Mexico State Park) as a candidate for a new electric view of our planets geology.

Info and pictures can be found at these sites:

The densely packed large rocks are said to come from a Volcano some tens of miles away. The lack of more large rock formations in the surrounding area and the density of the rocks raises questions about a volcanic origin.

A more likely candidate is Table Mountain. It is in the photos in very close proximity to the rocks. The current shape of Table Mountain suggests an electric discharge lifting up earth material, moving toward the southwest, and depositing the now rock material. There is also a large fracture in the earth coming from Table Mountain and running through the City of Rocks, additional evidence of an electrical event.

The dating of the rock material in the cliffs of Table Mountain(34.4-33.4 million yrs.) is very close to the dating of the City of Rocks material(34.9 million yrs.). There is also evidence of a welding process in the formation of the rocks which would fit with an electrical discharge, and which could have altered the composition enough to result in two different dates. There are features called "columnar joints" seen in the cliffs of Table Mountain, caused by cooling and contraction, which are similar to those found in the City of Rocks.

With electrical discharge as a possible reason for formation of the City of Rocks it sure looks like it to me.

I welcome any comments,
Jack
