New novel based on Electric Universe

What is a human being? What is life? Can science give us reliable answers to such questions? The electricity of life. The meaning of human consciousness. Are we alone? Are the traditional contests between science and religion still relevant? Does the word "spirit" still hold meaning today?

New novel based on Electric Universe

Unread post by pbrewer1965 » Fri Nov 30, 2012 10:38 am

I have been an avid reader of Thunderbolts for years. My love of Physics stretches back to my days at Rice University in the 80's. Your website inspired me to write a novel that I hope will spread the news of our Electric Universe to the masses. I am just a Physics layman, so while the Physics of my book is not perfect, I hope that the information contained throughout my novel will open the minds of its readers. The novel, Opening Dante's Gate, is available for download at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AEKVO3S

Columbia University Physics professor, Andrea Mandola, is the heroine of the novel. She theorizes that a near Earth passing of Mars in 3000 B.C. can explain the mysteries behind the construction of the pyramids of Egypt and Central America, Noah’s flood, the destruction of Sodom, ancient civilizations’ worship of Mars and proves Dante’s Gate to Hell actually existed.

Here is a chapter:

Chapter 2

Plasma

Manhattan - Columbia University - Pupin Physics Lab Lecture Hall 301
Present Day

Andrea Mandola walked down the long corridor on the third floor of the Pupin Physics Lab on the campus of Columbia University. Andrea’s white lab coat did little to camouflage her strikingly well proportioned five foot ten inch frame. Andrea’s outward appearance belied her mental acuity. She opened the massive hand carved oak door marked “301” and entered the lecture hall where she was met by the stares of the twenty-four students who were awaiting her arrival. The students were non-science majors all of whom were seeking to finish the six hours of science credit the university required of all its students in order to graduate from the prestigious university. Andrea was the secondary motivation for the boys in the class. Although Andrea did everything she could to discourage it, her looks quickly garnered her unwanted status among the male student population at Columbia. Even wearing her lab coat, no makeup and her shoulder length chestnut hair in a ponytail, Andrea was easily the most beautiful woman on campus.

The class was officially titled, Astronomy 1403 – Earth, Moon and Planets. However, it was known as “Stars for Stars” among the students as the class was a favorite of the athletes on campus. The course was usually taken in tandem with Basics of Geology, universally known as “Rocks for Jocks”, to acquire the elusive six hours of science credit. The group of students was an eclectic mix that represented just about every imaginable facet of life on the diverse campus. Among the crowd, Andrea recognized several faces. Columbia University is an Ivy League school in the middle of New York City. Therefore it attracted one of the most talented student pools in the country. One of the faces Andrea recognized belonged to a 19-year-old songwriter who already had three Gold Records. Another was an Olympic swimmer who had brought home several gold medals from the last Olympiad. Then there was the young pianist on the front row who had won the Steinway Society Scholarship and had already performed a one-man show at Carnegie Hall. Several members of the Columbia football team were also present. The entire team is comprised of non-scholarship student-athletes who were accepted into the school based on the same academic standards as the regular student body. This class truly lived up to its “Stars” moniker. Andrea smiled as she looked out at the group she was about to address. She really enjoyed lecturing and she was always happy to step in for Dr. Miller on the many occasions of late that he asked her to teach his class. Everyone on campus referred Dr. Miller as “the Professor”. He was the Dean of the Physics Department and had long planned to retire at the end of the academic year. Coincidentally, that would be when Andrea would earn her doctorate and begin in her official capacity as an untenured professor. The intertwining of Astronomy and Physics was Andrea’s chosen field. Her research in plasma cosmology was turning the world of science and conventional thought upside down. She was Columbia University’s rising star in Astrophysics. The students seemed to enjoy and appreciate the enthusiasm of her lectures. Andrea’s appearance quieted the din coming from the students in the small amphitheater. She carried her notes and several books in one hand and a small remote in the other. She would use the remote throughout her lecture to control the Optoma Digital Projector mounted to the ceiling.

“Alright, we are going to jump right in today.” Andrea announced to the class as she dimmed the lights before walking back to the podium.

“Don’t worry about taking notes in the dark. I’ve already posted them on my web site. No sleeping, I have been known to throw erasers.” Andrea said with a smirk as she turned around and grabbed a half dozen erasers from the three, century old sliding blackboards mounted to the wall behind her. She carefully stacked the erasers on the podium. The students laughed as she picked up the eraser atop the stack and pointed to the student in the top row who had been asleep since she first entered the auditorium. She skillfully rifled the eraser through the air of the dimly lit room. The entire class turned to watch the flight of the eraser just in time to see it strike the slumbering baseball player in the shoulder. His chin shot up from his chest revealing a drip of drool that had stretched from his mouth to his chest. The poor kid awoke to the entire class turned in their seats laughing at him.

“As you can see, I’ve got a good arm so don’t any of the rest of you test me.” Andrea announced with a grin as the class continued to laugh. With the students’ full attention, Andrea began her lecture.

“Until recently, gravity was thought to be the force that formed the billions of galaxies, solar systems, stars and planets that make up the universe.” Andrea said as images taken from the Hubbel Space telescope flashed on the white wall above the chalkboards.

“It was thought that the space between all celestial objects in the universe was a vacuum, void of all matter. Now scientists know that the darkness of space is filled with a force a thousand billion, billion times stronger than gravity. Magnetic fields formed by electric currents spanning the universe fill the void and are responsible for the shaping of galaxies, individual stars, solar systems, planets and every other object in space. Charged electrical particles pulse through space connecting every object in the universe in an enormous electrical grid. These electrically charged particles are not solid, liquid or gas, but plasma, the fourth state of matter. More than 99% of the universe is made up of plasma, which is the greatest conductor of electricity in the universe.”
Andrea pointed the remote toward the projector and clicked the remote. A photo of a shirtless and sweaty Matthew McConaughey replaced that of the Crab Nebula, much to the delight of the 13 girls in the class.

“I just wanted to make sure all of you are paying attention.” Andrea said above the laughter as she clicked the remote again. An image of Haley’s comet appeared on the wall.

“These electrically charged particles travel through billions of light years of space never losing their charge. As objects in space, such as planets, comets etc., travel through this field of charged particles, these objects themselves become electrically charged. As a comet streaks through the sky, it leaves a tail of electrically charged particles trailing in its wake. We call it the comet’s tail. The planets in our solar system are now electrically neutral due to the relatively stable distances each keep from the Sun in their circular orbits. In the days of the ancient world, before the elliptical orbits stabilized, as the planets streaked towards or away from the Sun they built up enormous charges of electricity. Several thousand years ago, several planets converged on Earth in a near collision course due to their irregular elliptical orbits. The inhabitants of Earth watched in horror as these planets unleashed their electrical charges on each other and occasionally on Earth. These events that began over 5,000 years ago, so terrified all of mankind that entire cultures forever changed across the Earth.”
Andrea pointed and clicked the remote and the image changed again. Andrea was silent as a series of photos of pyramids from around the world flashed onto the screen for a few seconds each.

“The pyramids in Giza, Zoser, Meidum, Dashur, Chizten Itza, Coba and the citadel in Machu Picchu plus multiple other sites in Central and South America were all built in an effort to control these new forces being unleashed on the Earth. Mars, Venus, Jupiter and Saturn had all gone largely unnoticed by those on Earth for the tens of thousands of years that man had inhabited the planet. Much like today, the planets were so far from Earth that they simply appeared as other stars to those on Earth.”
The image changed again to that of our modern night sky as viewed from Earth. Red arrows pointed out the four small dot-sized planets in the huge projected image.

“Then in the third millennium B.C., Saturn and Jupiter began to grow larger and larger in the night sky until they both appeared to be 10 times the size of the moon. Their appearance was so immense that the two planets were sharing dominion of the daytime sky with the Sun.”
Andrea clicked the remote again and another striking image appeared on the wall. It was an image she had shot at dusk on a recent safari to the Kalahari grasslands. Andrea had altered the image using Photoshop. In the altered photo projected on the wall, Jupiter and Saturn filled the entire night sky as they loomed over the African landscape.

“As the planets converged, our ancestors were about to bare witness to a cosmic light show as Jupiter and Saturn discharged their enormous charges of electrical current. Suddenly and violently Saturn emitted a brilliant violet blue arc of electrified plasma that instantaneously leapt across the night sky and slammed into Jupiter. An ancient Sumerian text written at the time of the event describes it as coming with a “violent roar”. For the next 80 years, the two planets exchanged violent plasma discharges that were so powerful that the Earth trembled even though none of the discharges touched our planet. The sight and sound would have been horrifying for those who had previously only known peaceful night skies. Every corner of the world witnessed these celestial bolts of plasma that turned night into day. The ancient peoples of Azerbaijan, Africa, Australia, China, Egypt, Hawaii, Italy, Ireland, Kashmir, Korea, Malta, Mexico, Russia, and Tibet chronicled these events by etching stone petroglyphs depicting what they had witnessed. Prior to 3000 B.C., ancient artisans had carved and painted scenes of mammoth, bison, ibex and other creatures they hunted on to the walls of their cave homes.”

An image from the Cave of Chauvet Pont-D’-Arc in France flashed onto the wall. It showed a mammoth drawn with red ochre by a Paleolithic artist.

“Similar animal petroglyphs are found on every continent but Antarctica, all dated to the period prior to 3000 B.C. After the clash between Jupiter and Saturn, the petroglyph artists across the world began to focus solely on the events unfolding in the sky.”

The image on the wall above the chalkboards changed again. The new image showed photographs of geometric images etched into the stone walls of caves from five continents. The etched images were identical.

“These petroglyphs depict strange geometric patterns that represent no recurring patterns in the natural world. To scientists, these geometric patterns are easily recognizable as spheroids, toroid ladders and arcs associated with electrified plasma discharges readily reproducible on a small scale in a laboratory. The ancient people viewed these same discharges on a much larger scale in the skies above Earth. They thought Jupiter and Saturn were gods who were at war with each other in the heavens. The skies above Earth were their battlefield. After 80 years of exchanging electrified bolts of plasma, the orbits of Jupiter and Saturn began to diverge from that of Earth’s. The plasma discharges continued as the two warring planets moved away in the sky. The Mayan calendar celebrates this as year 1, “When the Gods Leave”. As Jupiter and Saturn moved away, Mars and Venus were about to take center stage.”

The next image appeared. It was a close up image of Mars, as taken from from the Hubbel Space Telescope. The Red Planet’s most distinguishable characteristic is the Valles Marineris, which is clearly seen in the photo. The Valles Marineris is a 2,500-mile long and four-mile deep canyon running across the face of the planet. It is more than ten times the size of the Grand Canyon.

“The world was watching these celestial battles from every inhabited corner of the Earth. Every literate culture wrote stories of what they witnessed. Only the names of the planet gods changed from culture to culture. The descriptions of what was witnessed in the sky were virtually identical from story to story and continent to continent. The god Mars was known as Ares to the Greeks, Xipe to the Aztecs, Indra to the Indians and Scarface to Native Americans. While the names were different, the descriptions are unmistakably all describing Mars. All of these societies depicted Mars as the red god of war with a tremendous scar running down his face, wielding thunderbolts as his weapons. Today, the “scar” on the surface of far away Mars can only be seen with the aid of a high powered telescope. To the ancients, the red menacing face of Mars seemed almost close enough to touch, as it hovered over and terrorized their planet only to disappear as quickly as it had arrived. Mars made several dozen appearances that are mentioned in ancient texts over a 2,000-year period.”

The image on the wall was now that of the planet Venus.

“Venus was known as Inanna to the Sumerians, Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli to the Aztecs, Kukulcan to the Maya, Ishtar to the Babylonians, Sekhmet to the Egyptians, Frigg to the Norse and Anod to the Cannanites. Venus was described in the ancient texts of these societies as ‘the comet star’, ‘the longhaired star’, the ‘bearded star’, as a ‘dragon raining fire down upon the nation’, ‘like a dragon you deposited your venom on the land’ and ‘star scattering your flame and fire’. In all of these cultures, Venus is referred to as a dragon or dragon-like creature breathing fire on the Earth. As Venus and Mars moved in and out of Earth’s orbit, historians on every continent wrote of the events they witnessed in the sky. Works as diverse as the Iliad, the Bible and the Quatrains of Nostradamus make reference to these events. Nostradamus mentions the ‘bearded star’ in Quatrains 2:41-43. He tells of the star’s appearance burning for seven days over the Earth. Homer makes multiple references in the Iliad to the unusual celestial events caused by Venus.”

Andrea again pointed her remote. The next image was of Earth taken by Apollo astronauts from the surface of the Moon. The stark gray surface of the Moon is in the foreground with the Earth in the distance. The blue oceans of the Earth offer the only color in the otherwise grayscale of space. Andrea pointed and clicked the remote again. Her use of Photoshop altered the previous image to include that of Venus hovering very close over the Earth. She clicked the remote again. The photo now showed an arc of electrified plasma erupting from Venus and striking the Earth.

“During this period, arcs of plasma struck the Earth and forever changed the planet on which we live. Each arc of electrically charged plasma that struck the Earth delivered more energy than all the lightening strikes on Earth over the last thousand year period. Keep in mind that lightening currently strikes the Earth 100 times every second. That’s 2 billion strikes per year for you English majors that can’t do math in your head.”

“The plasma strikes were recorded in the Bible, the epic of Kalevala from Finland, the epic of Edda in Iceland as well as in writings in Mexico, India and throughout Asia. To give you an example, I’ll read a few passages from the Bible.” Andrea said as she picked up a Bible off the podium and turned to one of several pre-marked passages.
“Judges chapter 5, verse twenty describes it this way, ‘the stars fought’, Second Kings chapter one, verse eleven says, ‘fire has fallen from heaven and consumed the first two captains and all their men’. Finally in Luke chapter seventeen and verse twenty-nine it says ‘the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all’. It is my contention that the writers of these passages actually witnessed bolts of plasma strike the Earth. They assigned the cause of these celestial events to their god.”

“These jolts of plasma were so powerful that they changed and lengthened Earth’s orbit. The evidence proving this can be seen in the ever-lengthening historic calendars of these ancient civilizations. Each of the following calendars was changed soon after a plasma strike. In 3114 B.C. calendars across the world had only 240 days in a year. In 2349 B.C., the approximate date of the destruction of Sodom, calendars lengthened to 260 days. The calendars gained 33 additional days in 2193 B.C. By the first millennium B.C., the Persians, the Chaldeans, the Mayans, the Chinese and the Egyptians all moved to a 360-day calendar. In 670 B.C. the Earth’s orbit was changed again by what would be the last visit from Venus. After this last close encounter, Earth’s orbit became completely circular and the Earth became permanently tilted on its axis. The Persians quickly realized the change and added five more days to their calendar. Half way across the globe, the Mayans added the same five days at roughly the same time. The Egyptians by decree of Canopus added five days to their calendar a few centuries later. The Earth has been in a stable circular 365 and a quarter day orbit since the last visit by Venus. You can sleep well tonight, as it appears our orbit has stabilized and will no longer bring us within proximity of any of our neighboring planets.”

“Whoooohoooo!” Hollered one of the athletes on the back row. Laughter broke out again among the students. Andrea spoke quickly and loudly to regain her class.

“The outward effects on the Earth caused by these plasma discharges lasted for centuries. Immediately after each plasma strike, the transferred electrical energy radiated out of the Earth out of every tall or pointed object near the strike in levels over 30,000 volts per square centimeter. This high voltage electric field ionized the air molecules around these objects. Our atmosphere is seventy-eight percent nitrogen and twenty-one percent oxygen. When the nitrogen and oxygen in the air was ionized, a violet blue luminous light of electrified plasma would emit from the tip of these tall objects. This is known as St. Elmo’s fire. Civilizations across the Earth took notice and worshipped the fire that didn’t burn, as they believed it was sent from the gods. Once the planetary orbits stabilized, the plasma strikes ended and as time went by St. Elmo’s fire became increasingly rare. In cultures across several continents, men had taken note that the fire still emanated from the tops of certain tall mountaintops. The Pentateuch or Torah even speaks of one such mountain. Mount Sinai, also known as Mount Horeb, is the tallest mountain in the Sinai Peninsula. While Moses was tending the flocks of his father in law, Jethro, Moses looked to the top of the mountain and saw the burning bush. He climbed the mountain to find the same luminous plasma in the form of St. Elmo’s fire emanating from the bush on top the mountain. It was there that Moses spoke to his God. Kings in Egypt, Mexico and South America built pyramids to harness St. Elmo’s fire. The triangular shape of these man made mountains harnessed the fire and allowed the kings to subjugate their people by proving their divine authority as a conduit to their gods. Along with the mountaintops, the pentacles of these pyramids would have been one of the last places on Earth to have regular discharges of the luminous plasma. Other last vestiges of the fire would have been areas that were rich in naturally occurring iron ore, especially if they had been directly struck by bolts of plasma. St. Elmo’s fire is extremely rare today. The passengers and crew of a British Airways flight in 1982 witnessed St. Elmo’s fire on the plane’s wingtips as the airliner flew through an electrified cloud of volcanic ash.”

“The inward effects on the Earth caused by the bolts of plasma are more speculative. The possibilities can’t be quantified through experimentation or through the historical record as in the case with the outward effects. However, as a physicist, I can theorize that the energy transferred by these bolts could have opened wormholes that could have remained open for centuries until the electrical energy bled off.”

“You mean time travel?” A student asked aloud from the front row.

“Again, this is only theoretical; some would say it was pure speculation. But yes it is possible that these bolts could have opened and powered wormholes that could have transported someone through both space and time or even into another dimension.”

That answer gave the inquisitive student plenty to think about and seemed to have placated him for the moment. Andrea took the pause as an opportunity to end her lecture for the day.

“Dr. Miller wants a five-page paper by next Monday on any current event involving astronomy that you find interesting.” Andrea said as she turned the lights back on, turned the projector off and gathered up her notes from the podium. One of the students realized the class was over early. He stood to leave and like a flock of sheep taking their cues from their shepherd, they all stood and followed.

Hey there, just read your preview and felt that I needed to point something out.

Not to rain on your parade (congratulations on getting a book published by the way) but you do know that the Electric Universe discounts things like wormholes, time travel and alternate dimensions (by that, I'm assuming dimensions 5-11 that I've read about on when it comes to subjects like quantum immortality)? I know what you've written is fiction and as you said yourself:

However, a reader that comes to your novel who doesn't know the first thing about what the EU is won't be aware that it doesn't accept the notion of space-time and other points discussed in the theory of Relativity, both General and Special. Again, not trying to sound overly negative but to a newcomer, the EU to them might sounds like an alternative to String Theory and not the fundamental alternative view of the Universe that we take it as.

If it gets people interested in this theory it's worth putting out there. All books will contain the odd inaccuracy so a few glitches here and there are excusable, especially in fiction.

I'm thinking that a series of sci-fi novels based on the Saturn Theory (in conjunction with the EUT) could be highly entertaining, somewhat educational and definitely mind-blowing. I'd like to see someone with the imagination and writing ability of the likes of Frank Herbert weave an epic saga on a scope comparable to the Dune series. The series could open with the Dream Time or Purple Dawn era and leap-frog forward through the millenia and ages, culminating with the more current era wherein the solar system had reached its new equalibrium and the "gods" were no longer trashing the place.

I say, it's time to take quality sci-fi into new territory where it has never gone before! What say ye, wordsmiths of the world? Do I ask too much? :? :)
It's all about perception.

True, the more people that hear about the EU theory, the better.

My English teacher from secondary school would give me a verbal lashing if I said that to her. :D

Ask and ye shall receive. :)

I've mentioned elsewhere on the Thunderbolt forums that I'm in the middle of writing a book with the EU as its scientific basis (I'm still waiting for an answer to my query on how to travel faster than light in an electric universe, someone feel free to throw an idea at me). Classic space opera stuff with wars between interstellar empires; philosophical diatribes on what it means to be alive; alien women with sixteen legs and multiple eyes that allow for 360° vision and chitinous exoskeletons asking to be shown more of this human interaction called kissing; all that jazz.

I was planning on having a segment where the main character witnesses the birth of a planet from a star, followed by a rush of representatives from different mining corporations fighting to claim the brand-new body for their organisation.

You've also just given me the idea to add a section where the main character encounters a primitive civilisation that worship the planets they see in the sky as gods, as an inference to the Saturn theory. He's then accused of heresy by explaining that the sights they see are just electrical interactions between the planets above them.

"The current must flow!" :ugeek:

James P. Hogan wrote several novels based on alternative physics. CRADLE OF SATURN and sequel THE ANGUISHED DAWN put EU and Velikovskian catastrophism front and center. The catastrophe in the first book can be interpreted as the symbolic destruction of mainstream astrophysics.

It's been a while since I read ECHOES OF AN ALIEN SKY, but if memory serves, explorers from Venus travel to Earth in ships that "sail" on electric currents. In many old sci-fi tales, Mars is imagined to be the foundation of an ancient and now-lost civilization being explored by visitors from Earth. In ECHOES, Earth is the ancient planet with a dead and forgotten civilization.
