If Aliens asked the Question.

What is a human being? What is life? Can science give us reliable answers to such questions? The electricity of life. The meaning of human consciousness. Are we alone? Are the traditional contests between science and religion still relevant? Does the word "spirit" still hold meaning today?

If Aliens asked the Question.

This forum is a discussion of the “Human Question”

I wonder what the answers would be if the aliens asked us humans the questions.

Here’s the scenario….

You go to bed in your own bedroom, You suddenly wake up, shocked to find yourself surrounded by 12 Aliens. (like in the movie “Predator”)
You are on a distant alien planet. There are hot bright lights on you.
You are told that you will immediately return back home to earth in your own world unharmed with no memory of what happened to you. OR.. Your fate will be determined by a their jury of not your peers.
It all depends on your answer to four questions. “Yes Or No” only accepted.

The questions are:
1. Do you believe any of the gods humans speak of are real?
2. Do you believe aliens have ever visited planet Earth?
3. Do you believe in an afterlife?
4. Do you believe Black Holes are real?

Well…. “Final Answers”

My question is… Who here thinks they will be going home?

Really? I'm agnostic on most of these but I have my own SF universe where I know the answers. So
1. Do you believe any of the gods humans speak of are real?
No
2. Do you believe aliens have ever visited planet Earth?
Yes
3. Do you believe in an afterlife?
Yes
4. Do you believe Black Holes are real?
I'm offended that you asked

Now what?

It doesn't matter how beautiful your theory is, it doesn't matter how smart you are. If it doesn't agree with experiment, it's wrong.

Normal science does not aim at novelties of fact or theory and, when successful, finds none.

Hi tayga.

I like your last answer.. At this forum the question was more of a freebee.
The first three questions are far more problematic.
If I found myself in that situation, I would have to go with No on all four. And take my chances I don’t offend them.
I think it might be easier to explain why I said no, over saying yes.
I would expect to be sent home.
Crossing my fingers.

Reality

What is it?
Reality is left to individual perceptions of it. There are as many possible realities as there are individuals to perceive them. Ultimately there is only one true reality. Everything falls into one of only two sides on the coin.
Real or Unreal.

As I perceive reality it is all that we know is real in the material world. Like our keyboards. Matter we can see, feel, measure, test scientifically. The foundation… bottom line of reality is everything that doesn’t require any thought process to validate it’s existence.

All other ideas and concepts are built on top on this foundation.
Ideas like a Flat Earth, For many years it was a credible idea and stood up to critical analysis. It was believable. Then it fell down like a House of Cards when the truth was discovered. Ideas like all the mythical stories have fallen down under the weight of examination. Religious ideas are still standing but is growing more unstable as we learn more about our universe. Science theories like Black Holes are still standing. This forum is a source of wind growing stronger and may soon blow down the gravity theories. Only that what is real will stand the test of time and human learning. Knowledge either supports an idea or knocks it down.

If an idea is standing only with the support of human thought’s or imagination, it is destined to fall under the weight of Reality

There is a difference between thinking something is real, and knowing it is real

I hope the aliens would agree.

The questions are:
1. Do you believe any of the gods humans speak of are real?
More or less, so; "yes" :P
2. Do you believe aliens have ever visited planet Earth?
Mostly not, but in order to get home; "yes"
3. Do you believe in an afterlife?
NDE experience, inconclusive; so "yes" :?
4. Do you believe Black Holes are real?
Never seen one, and as long as there are simpler explanations; "No" :|
Well…. “Final Answers” My question is… Who here thinks they will be going home?
An ace up my sleeve, I pull out my Ruby red slippers and chant "there is no place like home"

If Dorothy can make it, so can I. Yes! 8-)

Hi fosborn

I really enjoy your twisted sense of humor.
I would think the aliens might like you as well. (or have you for dinner)
How would you look wearing those Ruby Red slippers?

Our answers don't match so one of us is not going home I fear.
Oh well... that's the risk you take trying to guess what aliens might think of our view of things.
I would ask the aliens if question number 2 includes them coming to get me? Or was I transported there by some other means.

I'll stick to NO as my answers and take my chances they appreciate my honesty.
Absolutely No Evidence will be my reasoning. "inconclusive" means no for me.
There is no place like home. I live out in the country on thirty acres with three houses.
Maybe the aliens would like to come visit and stay a while.
Not sure what I’d feed them.
Hope it's not me.

IF they are moving me toward the departure terminal, I wouldn't care. :)

But if I did get a couple of freebie questions, I would ask what they think of black holes. And how do they tell an event horizon from a Z pinch, any way? ( not a question I would ask the astronomer at our local observatory. I know what the answer would be; "a Z what?")

I suspect they would know what a Z pinch is, but not an event horizon. ;)

By the looks of your photo.. You’re ready for space flight.
Who’s your dentist? Nice teeth.

I agree, getting out of there would be priority one.
If they pointed you to two doors marked “YES” & “NO”, and one was home, one was ?????

I agree that they may ask… “What are Black Holes?”

Then they might laugh their dreads off when we tell them what a black hole is claimed to be…. by the astronomer at our local observatory.

Any events on the horizon I hope would get me home, and not through any black holes.

Hey fosborn

When I'm not typing, I am banging on my 19 piece drum set in my library.
Next to a Panasonic 50” Plasma TV and a 400 wt stereo system.
That is “Jethro Tull” on the screen.

“I don’t wanna work, I just wanna bang on my drum all day” so the song goes.
