Astronomy has little to celebrate in 2009!
January 15, 2009 ~ Wal Thornhill
For those who haven't noticed, this year is "The International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009)." The International Year of Astronomy will involve 135 nations and thousands of events around the world. It marks the celebration of the 400th anniversary of the first use of an astronomical telescope by Galileo Galilei. However, astronomers have little to celebrate in 2009. I couldn't agree with Wal more. It is great to see persons more connected with the scientific community speaking out on the misplaced and unscientific 'religious authority' of the contemporary political-scientific status quo.

I couldn't agree more with this article. If they REALLY wanted to "celebrate" the 400th anniversary of the first use of an astronomical telescope by Galileo Galilei, they should've made Halton Arp the head of International Astronomical Union placing the modern day Galileo his rightful place.
"Our laws of force tend to be applied in the Newtonian sense in that for every action there is an equal reaction, and yet, in the real world, where many-body gravitational effects or electrodynamic actions prevail, we do not have every action paired with an equal reaction." — Harold Aspden

I think the only thing both mainstream astronomy and the electric universe can agree on this year is the need to protect our dark skies...
Science can't hope to progress unless we have a reason to wonder! What better way to do that than to look up at the stars...
