Pick axe on Mars

Beyond the boundaries of established science an avalanche of exotic ideas compete for our attention. Experts tell us that these ideas should not be permitted to take up the time of working scientists, and for the most part they are surely correct. But what about the gems in the rubble pile? By what ground-rules might we bring extraordinary new possibilities to light?

Thanks for the pic, Tholden. Proof positive there is life on Mars. Enlarged and also found a rock with the letter T inscribed, an old wooden power pole (top right), a fountain pen, and a nail or metal stake.

The Martian worker left it by the door of the bakery when he stepped in for some of those famous cannoli.

The trouble is without a known scale all these zooms are meaningless.
The old 70's show UFO had a whole episode where this was the punchline and Starker was shown that despite his earlier statement that "scale does not matter - if it is a girls leg I can recognize it for what it is" he is in error, as was shown at high magnification.

We have something similar here with the pickaxe - how large is it really, given the zoom factor?
And if the scaling is correct then you could argue the whole area is a debris field...........we need a scale or this is meaningless.
