Kind of suggests it was not a star exploding, but a double layer collapsing around a star?

nova are star births.
The "explosion" is because of a z-pinch, the pinch is part of a larger interstellar Birkeland current.
What happens is that matter is drawn in by this pinch and concentrated into a plasmoid at the center, outbursts are E/M events where the surrounding plasma goes from dark/glow to arc mode. Yes, the glow or arc happens in double layers and surrounding plasma. Because of the massive energy input, at certain thresholds the energy releases. All the while matter is still drawing in. The pinch resides (no more outbursts) when the plasmoid offers enough resistance (or becomes a star, white dwarf).
I think EU can do (should do) more to really clarify this process.

Daniel

A comet can have a round "coma" with a diameter equal to that of the Sun, but it's just "ice evaporation".
They land on a comet and find rocks - no mainstream announcement of a great discovery is made, because the experiment contradicted the theory, this means there was no discovery, it was a mistake going there in the first place. Just an anomalous comet, nothing to see here.

And this was a comet, we see comets often, we even landed on one. What do you expect from them - when discovering something "anomalous" in deep space? They can say whatever they want - and still get funds, because they are the experts, and they know nobody can go there and check it out.
