after WW2 one single religious world view came to the forefr

Beyond the boundaries of established science an avalanche of exotic ideas compete for our attention. Experts tell us that these ideas should not be permitted to take up the time of working scientists, and for the most part they are surely correct. But what about the gems in the rubble pile? By what ground-rules might we bring extraordinary new possibilities to light?

after WW2 one single religious world view came to the forefr

<...We are not willing to accept that after WW2 one single religious world view came to the forefront, and only the science consistent with that, would see the light of day. But this IS what happened. celeste>

Materialism: the belief that the non-physical cannot influence matter. Compared with dualism which allows the non-physical to produce action which infers that a non-physical god could produce action.

So if a theory allowed the non-physical to produce action in any way then that would be outlawed. Having no god can allow for a pretty cold mindset to develop. Not that dogmatism is any better.

If there is no god then we are not restricted. So more perceived freedom. More room for selfishness.

Since the wars, the "apple of the garden" has become an iPhone.

With that kind of weapon, who needs wars ? The New Age of Self has been institutionalized in academia and promoted incessantly by the New World Media, as our self-serving politicians fill their boots.
Eidos over ethos reigns just now, but the tide always comes back in when regular folks have just had enough.

EU is movement in the right direction.

the "lie" can influence matter and its not material. The lie currently rules all in this world, and the lie is inherently opposed to the truth. Either the truth rules or the lie rules. That's it. No other choices to make.

Only the truth can set you free mo. There is no freedom being a slave to the lie.

You wouldn't be here if you weren't looking for the truth.

Merry Christmas.
its all lies.

Are you suggesting that the idea of 'god' (as you portray it) is a good influence ... that we should live life like children , with the idea that a father in the sky will punish us if naughty?

"More room for selfishness" ...I don't think so ...this idea that we're all inherently selfish , and need the threat of a punishing god to make us altruistic !!! Living around people will naturally cause a balance to develop between these two impulses.

oz93666,
I have not portayed my idea of god. Punishment need not come into it. It is the belief that living unselfishly produces a benefit because of god.

Of course there is some inherent selfishness, but it is the selfishness that develops through belief in no god that matters. It is simply comparing the actions of someone who believes in no real value in unselfishness, with someone who believes that unselfishness is divine.

But it is in the understanding of how god works and the understanding of what is self and selfishness that frees us from belief. So being unselfish is simply a matter of seeing and understanding the self and so letting it drop away.

I couldn't disagree more , moses .... It's essential we be selfish .... that means taking care of the needs of the self ... this is our first priority .... then when we mix with others , and particularly have children , unselfishness arises .... if food is limited , our first priority is get enough ourselves be selfish... if we have children they are the first priority, when they are full then we have some , this is innate instinct to make sure our DNA survives ...these instincts are there whether we believe in god or not.

The last thing we want is for the "self to drop away" ...stupid new age/christian nonsense .

This sort of insanity comes out of christianity !!! How our 'lord' selflessly gave his life on the cross ... what selflessness ...no he was an idiot schmuck for following his 'father's ' will ... this myth have led many stupid youngsters to join the military , to make the ultimate sacrifice ...selflessly lay down their lives ....christianity keeps war alive... particularly in the hearts of Americans!!

oz93666,
action arises in us through essentially two means, the physical and the non-physical which is experiencing or consciousness. So action arising from the non-physical is unselfish and that from the physical is selfish. Having one's children as top priority is selfish.

Hence we want action from the self to be minimized because it is competing against action coming from the non-physical through experiencing. The Christ on the cross portrays consciousness or experiencing connected to the physical body at conception, presumably.

We need to keep this topic free of religion, philosophy only please.

Try looking at your own ignorance. It is neither stupid, new age, Christian or nonsense. Try profound, ancient, global, philosophy.
If I have the least bit of knowledge
I will follow the great Way alone
and fear nothing but being sidetracked.
The great Way is simple
but people delight in complexity.
