No Sun disk visible in these Sydney sunrises

Beyond the boundaries of established science an avalanche of exotic ideas compete for our attention. Experts tell us that these ideas should not be permitted to take up the time of working scientists, and for the most part they are surely correct. But what about the gems in the rubble pile? By what ground-rules might we bring extraordinary new possibilities to light?

No Sun disk visible in these Sydney sunrises

Timelapse of Sydney shot at sunrise from a weather station on top of the Mathews building at the University of New South Wales, Kensington. Taken by the Climate Change Research Centre

In all of these videos we see the light coming out from the middle of the horizon, like we would expect if someone was filming a sunrise, but there is no Sun disk visible;

Does anyone have an explanation for that :?:

Obviously not, because the video starts with darkness.

A more sensible answer might be that they have airbrushed out the sun because they are monitoring the sunlight or summat.

You are not going to see the sunlight better if you airbrush the sun disk.

What is even more important, nowhere in the video descriptions does it say that they have altered the videos in any way.

Try pointing the camera at the Sun. ;)

The video that you linked is of Sydney sunset 23 Feb 2016;

Here is the video of the corresponding Sydney sunrise 23 Feb 2016;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cMgRLioycw

And as we can clearly see(7 sec. - 12 sec.) the emerging source of light is at the middle of the horizon.

So you would be wrong when implying that they didn't point their camera at the emerging source of light during sunrises.

Sun is behind the camera, you can easily tell by the shadows.

Maybe you have problem with your eyesight, but the Sun is definitely NOT behind the camera.
If it were, then you would see the areas of Sydney which are the closest to the camera lighting up first, but instead we see the exact opposite.

Re your first sentence: The instruments they use to measure whatever it is they are measuring don't need the sun to be 'visible'. Viewers watching a video of the sunrise/breaking dawn will benefit from not having a huge, very bright ball of light front and centre of the video.

Re your second sentence: Are you suggesting that there was no solar orb present on the day in question. Do you not think that someone other than you would have noticed its absence?

What exactly is the point of this thread; what are you trying to say?

Take a look at the images here and ask yourself how they got circular piece of material that large into space:

..., but the Sun is definitely NOT behind the camera. ...
In the first video, I use the frame at 0:34.
The buildings light up as the sun rises.
It is the moment when the sun reaches the tallest buildings.
The ground is still in the shadow.

The right side of the buildings is brighter, the left side is in the shadow.
The front of the buildings is bright also.
There is even a circular building that is over half-way lightened.
So the sun rises on the right-behind side of outside the view of the camera.
In the direction of 4 o'clock.

i agree with Zyxzevn. The sun is clearly off to the right.

John666, This is getting tiresome. It must be difficult for you to get through the day. Good luck.

There is a problem with that interpretation;

In the very same frame at 0:34 you can see that the sky on the right has much less orange coloration then the sky in the middle.

You would not see that if the sun rises on the right-behind side of outside the view of the camera.
If the sun would have risen from that position, you would have seen more orange coloration of the sky on the right, then in the middle.

Coloration in the sky is probably from reflection of the rising Sun off of particles and clouds in the sky. Any area of coloration is not necessarily an indication that the disk of the Sun is directly below.
It is obvious from the lighting of the buildings that the Sun is rising to the right and out of the field of view of the camera.

Why would the photographer not point the camera directly at the rising Sun?
Because, the subject of the video was the changing play of light on the city of Sydney as it transitioned from night time to daylight. That is why the name "Sydney" is in the title of the video.

The larger question is why is this innocuous video an issue? Do you think that the people who made the video would not have noticed that there was daylight but no Sun? Might that not have been a good story for the evening news?

So John, please give us a precise assessment of exactly what you think is going on here.

The UNSW is due south of Sydney which means the camera is pointing North.

john666, does the sun rise in the north on your planet?
