Conventional Science has an EU Conference

Many Internet forums have carried discussion of the Electric Universe hypothesis. Much of that discussion has added more confusion than clarity, due to common misunderstandings of the electrical principles. Here we invite participants to discuss their experiences and to summarize questions that have yet to be answered.

AGU Chapman Conference - Currents in Geospace and Beyond
Electric currents are fundamental to the structure and dynamics of space plasmas, including our own near-Earth space environment (also called “geospace”). This recognition is one of the great achievements in space research, going back to the beginning of the last century. With the current multi-spacecraft missions, such as Cluster, THEMIS and Swarm, we have unprecedented opportunities to unravel many of the intriguing puzzles about electric currents, such as:

How are electric currents generated, maintained, and dissipated?
What is their three-dimensional spatial structure (topology)?
What is the relationship among various scales?
What is their temporal development, both short and long term?
How do the currents affect their space environment?
How much energy is transported and deposited in various regions by currents?

How ironic, that it is called a Chapman conference.

I quote from the Wiki page of Sydney Chapman (mathematician).
He disputed and ridiculed the work of Kristian Birkeland and Hannes Alfven, later adopting Birkeland's theories as his own.
Now here is the mainstream, talking EU theory like it is their own, and they call it a Chapman conference.

Is that a coincidence, or ...?

Maybe it's not the same Chapman, because that is just to painful to believe someone would do that.
----
American Geophysical Union
AGU Chapman conferences are small, topical meetings designed to permit in-depth exploration of specialized subjects in a manner not possible at large meetings. The AGU Chapman Conference program has encouraged innovative research for over 35 years.

About this meeting:
The third objective is to provide a historical review of electric currents in space. With the upcoming 150th and 100th anniversaries of Kristian Birkeland’s birth and death years (1867-1917), we will have several keynote speakers on the pioneers in this important field of space science.

Olaf Amm, our fellow convener, passed away in December 2014. We dedicate this conference to Olaf.

----
Of course I could be wrong and they have been master gatekeepers all this time.

Who knows anymore... it's such a mess in 'mainstream' these days. At least it's not 'directly' sponsored by some nasa/gov contract.

Opps, here it is:
http://chapman.agu.org/general-information/
Take part in a world-renowned AGU Chapman Conference! Named in honor of Sydney Chapman, a mathematician and physicist recognized for his research in geophysics
interstellar filaments conducted electricity having currents as high as 10 thousand billion amperes

Well done 'Cargo', for doing the research on this topic. I think the result is appalling. How is it they cannot recognise, that Sydney Chapman made a huge mistake? It beggars belief that supposedly learned men can be so stupid and lacking in ethics. It is very hard to find truth and clarity in this world when it is opposed by NASA and corporate America. I wonder if the science of the EU will benefit by this conference?

Yes, well done, and thank you.
Made me look again, and I noticed;

From the Wiki page for Sydney Chapman, a section for "honours"
Chapman was bestowed many honours over his career including Smith's Prize in 1913,[5] election as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1919,[2] Royal Society Bakerian lecturer in 1931, Royal Society Royal Medal in 1934, London Mathematical Society De Morgan Medal in 1944. In 1949, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society and was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1953. In 1964, he was awarded the Copley Medal of the Royal Society. He was elected to the National Academies of Science of the United States, Norway, Sweden and Finland.[5] He served as President of the London Mathematical Society during 1929–1931 and the Royal Meteorological Society 1932–1933.

The lunar Crater Chapman is named in his honour, as is the Sydney Chapman Building on the campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. This building served as the first permanent home of the University of Alaska Geophysical Institute, and it now contains the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The American Geophysical Union organises "Chapman Conferences," which are small, topical meetings intended to foster innovative research in key areas.[15] The Royal Astronomical Society founded the Chapman Medal in his memory.[16]
Now from the Wiki page for Kristian Birkeland, a section called "legacy"
(there is no section for honours, in Birkeland's page)
Birkeland's theory of the aurora was eventually confirmed and accepted as correct.

An example of one of his experiments is depicted on the left front of the Norwegian 200 kroner note; it shows a magnetized terrella, simulating the Earth, suspended in an evacuated chamber. Birkeland's face appears a second time in a watermark in the blank space above the drawing of the Terrella, and his rudimentary magnetosphere appears on the back, but is only visible under ultraviolet light. The ring encircling the magnetic pole depicted on the back of the bank note is similar to the patterns predicted by Birkeland and shown more recently by satellites. His drawing of what became known as Birkeland currents from his book, The Norwegian Aurora Polaris Expedition 1902–1903,[7] is shown on the back of the banknote at the right.
Birkeland was right and eventually confirmed, yet Chapman, his greatest critic, got all the honours,
and Electric Universe theory has been treated condescendingly by the mainstream for these last hundred years.

Now mainstream has "Chapman" conferences, to try and catch up.

Yes, you are correct again. I have also read the Wiki about Birkeland:-
"Birkeland's vision of what are now known as Birkeland currents became the source of a controversy that continued for over half a century, because their existence could not be confirmed from ground-based measurements alone. His theory was disputed and ridiculed at the time as a fringe theory by mainstream scientists, most notoriously by the eminent British geophysicist and mathematician Sydney Chapman who argued the mainstream view that currents could not cross the vacuum of space and therefore the currents had to be generated by the Earth. Birkeland's theory of the aurora continued to be dismissed by mainstream astrophysicists after his death in 1917. It was notably championed by the Swedish plasma scientist Hannes Alfvén, but Alfvén's work in turn was also disputed by Chapman."
I have noticed that NASA, in some cases, still refuses to call 'Birkeland currents', 'Birkeland currents', but calls them 'magnetic ropes' instead. How are people supposed to have any faith in an organisation like that?

I now have faith in them, that they are deliberately obfuscating science.

Magnetic ropes, magnetic highways, electron beams, any name except not "current".

That might imply that there is electricity in space.
And that in turn might imply there are processes at work other than gravity and earth-like geology.

Of course they are. This is ambition and "operation we want to become God". Look at many of the works of Roy Masters, especially "Hypnotic States of Americans". They are also intend to upset people trying to understand and/or research Electric Universe. The trick is not to get into resentment for that. That just sets up the hook they use to inject even more hypnosis and aggravation. So what if they hold their silly conferences ! Who cares ? Who cares what Chapman did ? They just want you tensing your jaw and trying to "fight" them even more. It's a trap ! Just calmly keep investigating and don't get into into resentment, that's what will eventually break this field WIDE open.
Exploration and discovery without honest investigation of "extraordinary" results leads to a Double Bind (Bateson, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_bind ) that creates loss of hope and depression. No more Double Binds !
