High School Curriculum Reform

Has science taken a wrong turn? If so, what corrections are needed? Chronicles of scientific misbehavior. The role of heretic-pioneers and forbidden questions in the sciences. Is peer review working? The perverse "consensus of leading scientists." Good public relations versus good science.

High School Curriculum Reform

Post by swwilcox » Sun May 22, 2011 7:50 pm

My name's Scott and I have my BA in English/Tech Writing, plus 2 Associate's degrees, and 2 other experience/equiv degrees.
I'm excited by the Thunderbolts concept as something that fleshes-out my personal vision of improved h.s. instruction, the paradigms of which are to my professional experience just plain wrong. My nearly 2-years' interning in Pennsylvania showed me:
1) Even veteran teachers DO NOT KNOW the basic mechanics of the English language, and when I challenged them (per my required course assigments) to illustrate those mechanics, I was promptly threatened with the termination of both my internship and academic career.
2) Music instruction and mathematics are relegated to truly medieval methods of notation that hinder true conceptual grasp and desire for discovery.
So much for the 3 R's, reading, writing, and 'rithmetic: the curriculum gets an F.

Thankfully, I used both my decades of experience in music, music electronics, writing, filmmaking, and instructional design to formulate a fun film: BARDS OF FANTASIA. It's animated and musical, much like Tolkien's The Hobbit my elementary-school classmates were treated to at least yearly. But where it differs is it's aimed at adolescents for career and college-prep, with amazingly easy-to-grasp posters in the subjects of
English Linguistics
Physics
Music
Art History
Dramatic Psychology
Business & Creative Writing

Those seeking to incorporate the Thunderbolts paradigm in an educational ministry--or just for homeschooling, will find the simple, inexpensive DVD-package invaluable. Specific topics raised for inquiry in the film itself are 1) The Big Bang/Membrane Theory, 2) Wave-theory in music and metaphysics, and 3) extensive comparative mythology between Biblical, Celtic, and Norse peoples over a 3,000-year span.

I look forward to many discussions here.

Hello Scott and welcome,

Looking back at my education there is one thing that surprises me still; the lack of mentioning Tesla.
If I look around in my room or even in the street I can see the impact this great innovator and scientist had/has on the 20th and 21th century.

What is your view on this?
Today's scientists have substituted mathematics for experiments, and they wander off through equation after equation, and eventually build a structure which has no relation to reality. -Nikola Tesla -1934
