Stephen Hawking reinvents God

Has science taken a wrong turn? If so, what corrections are needed? Chronicles of scientific misbehavior. The role of heretic-pioneers and forbidden questions in the sciences. Is peer review working? The perverse "consensus of leading scientists." Good public relations versus good science.

Sorry, but both you and professor Hawking need a good cup of empiricism.

To illustrate my point, please disprove the following theory. - A three headed dragon created the universe by coffing gravity and fire a couple of billion years ago-.

I have a piece of magic string that keeps 3 headed dragons away ... try and find a report sighting 3 headed dragons around our neighbourhood! ... ipso-facto ... I call it my "string-theory"

I thought you needed a mass for gravity to exist????

How can gravity exist if there is none? :?:

First there was nothing and gravity????

Then bigbang et voila universe? Can gravity explode?

How can they print such BS :?:

They are blatantly fooling the mass not scientists, they should know better or what?

What it proves is that the 'Masses' don't give a whit about the Universe beyond who's in the lead for the next <Nation-of-choice> Idol competition and their fave reality TV show (which are usually about as realistic as mainstream cosmology is)... >.<

They just don't care :\

Yes this is so true sadly, many times I tried to engage in a formal discussion about EU or plant perception(I feel awe when I contemplate those subjects) with my entourage, and the responses I normaly get are :
So what?
Are you scientist now?(I am far from one ;) )
Did you see that new bag at Gucci?

I really need to change friends... ;)

So strange in their presences I feel like I am loosing the overwhelming feeling of wonderment I normally feel when I ponder about those subjects, like it feel pointless, but once I am alone my puzzled interest is back :geek:

Hang in there, Audrey- one day we can hope this stuff will finally make its way into popular media.. "The Great Astronomy Cover-Up Scandal" would be a nice title! That would get everyone talking about it, and we'd be able to say "Oh yeah, I've know about this for years, you know..." and all of your friends will be totally impressed with how current and informed you are! :D

 Oh, no - please, NO! "Popular media," which panders to the lowest common denominator, and "this stuff" simply don't jive. :? I mean, can you imagine how dumbed-down it would have to be to even get their attention?

cartoon show host in goth clown suit leaning right out of the wall-mounted 3D plasma screen and into the room - arms outstretched: "Hey, boys and girls, guess what? Wow - did you know that the entire universe is driven, primarily, by the electrical force?!!"

boys and girls (half brain-dead from a life of ritalin-boosted TV/twitter): :| :| :| collective *YAWN* then, "This sucks. Anybody wanna go to the mall?"
