I think the entire journey with the information listed below makes it clear that the true and only deserving father of modern EU is Nikola Tesla. Not only did he create and operate the first Theta Pinch, the Magnifying Transmitter, when taken into account alone is incredible.
But along with the sheer volume of his contributions to the EU both theoritcal and practical which include his list of patents and electric inventions, vacuum tubes, plasma arcs, radio control, longitudinal energy including neutrino emission, telecommunications, created lightning bolts and ball lightning make him the father of the EU. No single person before or after has come close to his personal journey into the EU and I think we can all agree on that. Along with the following information makes him the the true master of electricity and the EU.

NIKOLA TESLA AND THE EXPLORATION OF COSMOS
Nikola Tesla is discoverer of radio and remote control, so important for computer guided spaceships from mission control centers. Nikola Tesla is the father of radio astronomy, in his laboratory in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1899 he recorded cosmic radio waves. The cosmic radio waves were emitted from hydroxyl molecules of interstellar gas clouds and the envelopes of Red Giant Stars. They are very important for the exploration of cosmos. The BBC film Masters of the Ionosphere features Nikola Tesla as the first scientist who utilized the ionosphere for the scientific purposes. The ionosphere is the ionic-charged part of the atmosphere, important for the transmission of radio waves. Nikola Tesla signaled Mars by radio, he spent fifty years of his life to establish communications among of the planets by means of radio.

Magnifying transmitter

In the late 1880's, Dr. Nikola Tesla accidently discovered an electrostatic "super-charging" effect while trying to verify Hertz' discovery of electromagnetic waves. After hundreds of experiments, he learned how to control and maximize this phenomenon. This led him to the discovery that electricity is made up of different components that can be separated from each other, and that a pure, gaseous, etheric energy can be fractionated away from the flow of electrons in a circuit designed to produce short duration, unidirectional impulses. When all of the conditions were right, this Longitudinal Impulse energy would manifest itself as a spatially distributed voltage that would radiate away from the electrical circuit as a "light-like ray" that could charge other surfaces within the field. Tesla found that this effect was greatly magnified when these impulse currents were produced by the discharge of a capacitor. This huge explosion of electrostatic energy, that radiates away at right angles from the capacitor discharge pathway, is the primary operating principle of his Magnifying Transmitter. With amazing device, Tesla planned to broadcast energy to the whole world from his facility at Wardenclyffe, New York.

The lab possessed the largest Tesla Coil ever built, fifty-two feet (16 m) in diameter, known as the Magnifying Transmitter (further MT). Not identical to a classic Tesla Coil, it was a three-coil magnifying system requiring different forms of analysis than lumped-constant coupled resonant coils presently described to most. It resonated at a natural quarter wavelength frequency and could work in a continuous-wave mode and in a partially damped-wave resonant mode.

According to accounts, Tesla used it to transmit tens of thousands of watts of power wirelessly; it could generate millions of volts of electricity and produce lightning bolts more than one-hundred feet (30 m) long. Tesla posted a large fence around it with a sign "Keep Out - Great Danger".

Wireless transmission was tested some 26 miles away from the station. In it, a power receiver was tuned to one of the rebroadcast rates. The 200 lamps housed within this structure, each of 50 watts rating, all remained brilliantly illuminated throughout the test runs.

Tesla became the first man to create electrical effects on the scale of lightning. The MT produced thunder which was heard as far away as Cripple Creek. People near the lab would observe sparks emitting from the ground to their feet and through their shoes. Some have observed electrical sparks from the fire hydrants (Tesla for a time grounded out to the plumbing of the city). The area around the laboratory would glow with a blue corona (similar to St. Elmo's Fire).

One of Tesla's experiments with the MT destroyed Colorado Springs Electric Company's generator by backfeeding the city's power generators, and blacked out the city. The company denied Tesla further access to the backup generator's feed if he did not repair the primary generator at his own expense; it was working again in a few days.

Tuned circuits

Tesla also constructed many smaller resonance transformers and discovered the concept of tuned electrical circuits. He also developed a number of coherers for separating and perceiving electromagnetic waves and designed rotating coherers which he used to detect the unique types of electromagnetic phenomenon he observed. They had a mechanism of geared wheels driven by a coiled spring-drive mechanism which rotated small glass cylinders. These experiments were the final stage of years of work on synchronized tuned electrical circuits.

These transceivers were constructed to demonstrate how signals could be "tuned in". Tesla logged in his diary on July 3, 1899 that a separate resonance transformer tuned to the same high frequency as a larger high-voltage resonance transformer would transceive energy from the larger coil, acting as a transmitter of wireless energy, which was used to confirm Tesla's patent for radio during later disputes in the courts. These air core high-frequency resonate coils were the predecessors of systems from radio to radar and medical magnetic resonance imaging devices.

Propagation and Resonance

On July 3, 1899, Tesla discovered terrestrial stationary waves within the earth. He demonstrated that the Earth behaves as a smooth polished conductor and possesses electrical vibrations. He experimented with waves characterized by a lack of vibration at points, between which areas of maximum vibration occur periodically. These standing waves were produced by confining waves within constructed conductive boundaries. Tesla demonstrated that the Earth could respond at predescribed frequencies of electrical vibrations. At this time, Tesla realized that it was possible to transceive power around the globe. A few years later, George Westinghouse stopped funding Tesla's research when Tesla showed him that he could offer free electricity to the whole world by simply "ramming a stick in the earth in your backyard". Westinghouse said he would go bankrupt if that happened.

Tesla conducted experiments contributing to the understanding of electromagnetic propagation and the Earth's resonance. It is well documented (from various photos from the time) that he lit hundreds of lamps wirelessly at a distance of up to twenty-five miles (40 km). He transmitted signals several kilometres and lit neon tubes conducting through the ground. He researched ways to transmit energy wirelessly over long distances. He transmitted extremely low frequencies through the ground in his experiments and made mathematical calculations and computations based on his experiments and discovered that the resonant frequency of the Earth was approximately 8 Hz (Hertz). In the 1950s, researchers confirmed resonant frequency was in this range (interesting to note, Theta brain waves also cycle in this range).

Cosmic Waves

In the Colorado Springs lab, Tesla recorded what he concluded were extraterrestrial radio signals and announced his findings in some of the scientific journals of the time. His announcements and data were rejected by the scientific community who did not believe him. He notes measurements of repetitive signals from his receiver which are substantially different from the signals he had noted from storms and earth noise. Specifically, he later recalled that the signals appeared in groups of clicks 1, 2, 3, and 4 clicks together. He stated in the article "A Giant Eye to See Round the World", of February 25, 1923, that:

"Twenty-two years ago, while experimenting in Colorado with a wireless power plant, I obtained extraordinary experimental evidence of the existence of life on Mars. I had perfected a wireless receiver of extraordinary sensitiveness, far beyond anything known, and I caught signals which I interpreted as meaning 1--2--3--4. I believe the Martians used numbers for communication because numbers are universal."

Clearly, Tesla felt the signal groups originated on the planet Mars. In 1996 Corum and Corum published an analysis of Jovian plasma torus signals which indicate that there was a correspondence between the setting of Mars at Colorado Springs, and the cessation of signals from Jupiter in the summer of 1899 when Tesla was there. Further, analysis by the Corums indicate that Tesla's transceiver was sensitive in the 18 kHz gap in the Kennelly-Heaviside layer which would have allowed that reception from Jupiter. Therefore, there is evidence the signals Tesla noticed came from Jupiter, among other possible sources. Tesla spent the latter part of his life trying to signal Mars.

It is important to recognize that when he says he "recorded" these signals, it is meant that he wrote down the data and his impressions of what he had heard. He did release reports at the time. Tesla¹s initial announcement of the existence of extraterrestrial radio signals was in 1899. In March of 1907, Tesla wrote about signaling to Mars in Harvard Magazine and how it was a problem of electrical engineering. Additional descriptions come from remembrances twenty years later. All this was met with resistance and disbelief by his contemporaries.

Meyls theory of lightning based on the vortex model. I find a disconnect in his theory here as he does not consider from whence the soure of the lightning began....the galactic current. The EU steps in and finished the equation.

Lightning
Lightning is a spectacle of nature just as imposing as unsolved. It concerns an electric process of discharge, in which to the amazement of all experts arrive for several powers often more charge carriers at the surface of the earth, than hefore were contained in the cloud!

Furthermore unsolved is, why lightning glows. Let us start with the open question for the difference of potential necessary so that the air is ionised and a lightning channel is formed.

If at first the electric tension voltage of 200,000 volts between the surface of the earth and a height of 10 kilometres is available, which according to our calculations results from the rotation of the earth and the magnetism of the earth. Another source of tension voltage is not known. By air movement and supposed processes inside a cloud locally an additional accumulation of charge carriers may occur, so that in the case of a thunderstorm the by Tesla assumed, twice as big value doesn't seem unrealistic.

On the other hand a tension voltage between 4,000 and 10,000 volts is necessary so that a blow can occur for an air gap of one centimetre depending on the atmospheric humidity. Linearly projected the thunderstorm cloud theoretically should hover just one meter above the earth if there is lightning.

Here somehow a huge gap gapes between theory and practice!

At the latest at the spikes, the mysterious lightning, which strike out of a thunderstorm cloud upwards in the direction of the ionosphere and the still more mysterious balllightning it has to get clear, that the actual source of tension voltage of a lightning by no means is known. Without knowledge about the cause we'll never understand lightning.

The potential vortex theory offers an useful approach, according to which the necessary difference of potential is formed from a formation of vortices. The vortex again, as damping term in the wave equation, occurs as a result of intense sun irradiation. That explains why lightning always strike from the part of a cloud, which is the darkest, where the most sunlight is absorbed and the damping is the largest.

The possible formation of ice in a lightning channel is a further confirmation for the correctness of the vortex explanation. After all it has been derived that contracting potential vortices withdraw heat in principle.

But now we also want to know from this efficient theory, why photons and electrons are formed during the lightning and where they come from. Here obviously energy is formed by means of materializing of vortex particles.

I proceed from the assumption that lightning collects and converts neutrinos. The process corresponds to the one at the sun, but on a smaller scale and only for a very short time.

The lightning channel is polarized by the charge carriers. Change of temperature and field lead to a spatial oscillation, which by the way also functions as a source of sound, as anyone can hear. Taken both together lightning, seen from the outside, becomes an unipolar resonator, which is capable to attract neutrinos and to go into resonance with them. Now the predominant part is converted into electrons, because also the air
molecules and air ions in the lightning channel belong to the world of matter.

But it can't be avoided that a small part of antiparticles is formed, which then annihilate with particles of matter under emission of radiation. Doing so photons are emitted and lightning glows, as anyone can see!

From Maxwell's field equations only the well-known (transverse) Hertzian waves can be derived, whereas the calculation of longitudinal electromagnetic waves gives zero as a result. This is a flaw of the field theory, since longitudinal waves exist for all particle waves, like e.g. as plasma wave, as photon- or neutrino radiation.

Starting from Faradays discovery, instead of the formulation of the law of induction according to Maxwell, an extended field theory is derived, which goes beyond the Maxwell theory with the description of potential vortices (noise vortices) and their propagation as a longitudinal wave, but contains the Maxwell theory as a special case. With that the extension is allowed and doesn't contradict textbook physics.


Common misinterpretation of the antenna losses


The mathematical description of physical relations leads to the well-known laws, which shouldn't be doubted anymore as soon as they are accepted to be correct. But what about the interpretation? Although a law dictates the interpretation and there is no choice, because laws must be adhered to, yet textbooks from time to time violate the mathematically dictated interpretation, a circumstance, which can't be accepted. I would like to illustrate this with an example.

Let us assume that the measured degree of effectiveness of a transmitting antenna amounts to 80 percent. There exist better antennas, but also distinctly worse antennas, but I'm not aiming at a certain construction. The statement simply says, that 80% of the fed in HF-power is transformed into Hertzian waves. Thus there arises a loss of power of 20 percent, and the question follows: of what do those 20% consist?

The answer, which is usual among experts and is supported by the textbooks, reads: the antenna wire gets hot and also the air around the antenna is heated by dielectric losses. In short, heat is formed.

But I have to point out and will furnish proof that this interpretation is predominantly wrong! It in any case isn't in accord with the laws of Maxwell. Who namely obeys the laws, comes to an entirely different result!

A short derivation brings it to light.

We start with the formulation of Faraday's law of induction according to the textbooks, apply the curl-operation to both sides of the equation and insert in the place of rot H Ampere's law. The generally known result describes a damped electromagnetic wave.

It on the one hand is a transverse wave, which represents 80% of the antenna power for our example. On the other hand a damping term can be found in the equation, which obviously corresponds to the sought-for 20%. With that the answer would have been found. We realize that because of a damping of the wave 20% antenna losses arise. These losses can't concern heat at all, since the damping term in the equation has got nothing in common with thermodynamics. In the equation doesn't stand anything about heat!

Such a mistake!

26.2 Wave damping by field vortices

Mathematically seen the damping term describes vortices of the electromagnetic field. This term for instance forms the basis of all eddy current calculations <ii>.


Physically seen some waves--in our example it is 20 percent--roll up to field vortices, with which the wave damping and the antenna losses would be explained.

In the course of time a substantial part of the generated vortices will fall apart. These thereby will produce eddy losses in form of heat. Thus eventually still heat is produced--agreed. The criticism of the textbooks consists of the circumstance that we by no means can proceed from the assumption that all vortices spontaneously fall apart and a total conversion into heat will take place. The process in addition takes place with a temporal delay. The time constant τ gives information in this respect. Field energy is buffered in the vortex, where some vortices live very long and it can't be ruled out that a few even exist as long as you like.

To find out more about these field vortices and their behaviour, one has to get deep into vortex physics. Unfortunately nothing can be found about vortex physics in the textbooks. The mistake is systematic. The following short compendium should help close the gap:

Mathematically seen a closed-loop electromagnetic field vortex will show as a scalar. Such field vortices, which are mediated by a scalar field, are propagating exactly as charged particles in longitudinal manner as a "scalar wave."


Physically seen a closed-loop field vortex has got particle nature. If one particle kicks off the next one then an impulse is mediated, then a shock wave is occurring, a longitudinal undulation of the particles.

From the vortex physical view the interpretation of the antenna example now sounds entirely different:

The charge carriers in an antenna wire oscillating with high-frequency form a longitudinal shock wave. Between current and tension voltage usually a phase shift of 90deg is present. The fields produced by these charge carriers form a [longitudinal EM] wave field in the immediate vicinity of the antenna, the so-called near-field zone, which likewise contains longitudinal field components and shows a phase shift of 90deg between electric and magnetic field (fig. 21.8 A). As in textbooks is clarified by field lines, the generated fields actually form vortices, where one structure kicks off the next one (fig. 21.9 A).

The vortices in the near-field zone of an antenna consist of standing waves, which obviously are transforming with increasing distance. In our example 80% of these are unrolling and turn into transverse waves, whereby the characteristic phase angle between E- and H-field at that occasion becomes zero.

Let's turn again to those 20 percent loss.

26.3 Laplace versus Maxwell

Longitudinal waves as is well-known don't know a fixed velocity of propagation at all. Since they run in the direction of an oscillating field pointer also the vector of velocity will oscillate. For so-called relativistic velocities in the range of the speed of light c the field vortices are subject to the Lorentz contraction. That means, the faster the oscillating vortex is on its way, the smaller it gets. The vortex, as a mediator of a [longitudinal EM] wave carrying impulse, permanently changes its diameter.

Since, in the case of the vortices, it should concern rolled up waves, the vortex velocity will continue to be c, with which the wave now runs around the vortex centre in a circle. From that follows that if the diameter gets smaller, the wavelength of the vortex as well will decrease, whereas the eigenfrequency of the vortex accordingly increases.

If the next moment the vortex oscillates back, the frequency again decreases. The vortex acts as a frequency converter! The mixture of high-frequency signals distributed over a broad frequency band formed in this way, is called noise. A noise signal indeed is measured from the outside with the help of broadband receivers. We also speak of antenna noise and with this knowledge we can further specify the 20% antenna losses: The antenna produces 20 % noise, which can be put equal to the generated vortices because of the wave damping.

At this point the Maxwell theory doesn't leave us room for interpretation at all. If in the textbooks the impression is aroused, as if the noise were an independent discipline, than that is not true at all. How much the noise is connected with the electromagnetic waves, proves a short look at the wave equation.

The wave equation found in most textbooks has the form of an inhomogeneous Laplace equation. The famous French mathematician Laplace considerably earlier than Maxwell did find a comprehensive formulation of waves and formulated it mathematically (eq. 26.12), which [up to] today is still accepted as valid.

On the one side of the wave equation the Laplace operator stands, which describes the spatial field distribution, and which according to the rules of vector analysis can be decomposed into two parts. On the other side the description of the time dependency of the wave can be found as an inhomogeneous term.

If the wave equation according to Laplace (26.12) is compared to the one, which the Maxwell equations have brought us (26.11), then two differences clearly come forward:

1. In the Laplace equation the damping term is missing. It doesn't describe the formation of vortices, and that means vortices do not exist at all, or vortices have been present there from the beginning.

2. With divergence E a scalar factor appears in the wave equation, which founds a [longitudinal EM] wave.

At this point at once hot tempered discussions concerning the question of the existence of [longitudinal EM] waves blaze up. But this question has already been answered clearly with the vortex consideration. Since an accepted description of . . . [longitudinal EM] waves exists with the plasma wave and the plasma wave can be derived directly without postulate from the term of the wave equation (chapter 21.4/21.5), which founds [longitudinal EM] waves, there are further arguments present for their existence.

26.4 Error term in the wave equation

From the comparison of coefficients of both wave descriptions follows even more:

Mathematically seen the damping--resp. [that is to say] vortex term according to Maxwell can be put equal to the [longitudinal EM] wave term according to Laplace.


Physically seen the generated field vortices form and found a [longitudinal EM] wave.

Here also doesn't exist any room for interpretation, as long as we work with the wave equation according to Laplace and at the same time adhere to the Maxwell theory. If however the [longitudinal EM] wave part is put equal to zero, as is common practice in the textbooks, then as a consequence neither vortices nor noise may exist. But that contradicts all measuring technical experience! Since every antenna produces more or less noise, the textbooks obviously only show half the truth. Science however gropes for the whole truth and that should be fathomed.

If in the case of the antenna example the vortex part amounts to 20%, then that's tantamount to 20% [longitudinal EM] wave part, resp. [i.e.] 20% noise. The [longitudinal EM] wave part constitutes with regard to the Hertzian useful wave something like an error term in the wave equation. The part definitely is too big, as that it might be put equal to zero. Even so all error consideration in the textbooks is missing, if the [longitudinal EM] wave term is assumed to be zero. That violates all rules of physics and of taught scientific methodism.

In practice this shows by a useful signal going under in the noise and reception not being possible anymore as soon as the [longitudinal EM] wave part gets out of control. Even in this case, for which the degree of effectiveness tends towards zero, it still is common practice to put the error term, which is dominating everything, equal to zero. But who in this point follows the textbooks, disregards with that the wave equation and doing so by no means can refer to the circumstance that all colleagues make the same mistake.

The building of physics behaves like a house of cards, where the cards mutually support each other. Perhaps that is the deeper reason why those, who have discovered a marked card, don't pull it out immediately. In addition they are hindered by the self appointed guardians of the "pure doctrine," since everyone knows what happens with the house of cards if the marked card is pulled out. Only, do we want to and can we live with that in the long run? Is it a solution of the problem, if the so-called experts among the physicists and technicians look away and don't deal with the foundation of their branch anymore? If universities crash their basis education into the wall and choke off every contradiction?

Please allow me to pull out the marked card now and place it on the table!

It concerns the question: what is the nature of the field vortices, which form a [longitudinal EM] wave in space. Eddy currents in the iron parts of the antenna are explained with the field equations, but not the noise, which is measured especially in the air. If an antenna on the one hand produces field vortices and as a consequence eddy losses and on the other hand dielectric losses, then we can assume that besides the eddy currents in the conductor also vortices in the dielectric must exist. Let's search for them!

26.5 Interim result


It shouldn't be a disadvantage, to interpret physical laws more consistently than usual, even if in the present case orthodox science through that at first should fall into a deep crisis. If the way is worthwhile, only will show at the end.

Let us try to work out the contradictions in form of a comparison of arguments:

The Maxwell equations on the one hand dictate that as the reason for a wave damping only field vortices should be considered.

On the other hand the same laws merely describe eddy currents, which can only occur in the electrically conducting parts of the antenna.

On the one hand the field vortex interpretation makes it possible to explain the noise of an antenna perfectly. .

On the other hand does the noise appear in the neighborhood of the antenna, thus in the air and not in the iron parts!

The mathematical formulation reveals, how wave and vortex, resp. [that is to say] noise, cooperate and how one should imagine the conversion of one form into the other form.

In field physics on the other hand is missing a useful description of electric field vortices in a dielectric, which could found the noise signal.

The most obvious among all conceivable solutions is the one that we have to assume the existence of dielectric field vortices, so-called potential vortices. We are challenged to search for a corresponding description. If the quest should be successful, then the contradictions would be overcome. In addition there is the promise of a whole number of simplifying explanations of various phenomena in the dielectric.

The phenomenon of noise becomes an aspect of wave physics, which is more than merely a field disturbance, which makes the reception of the useful wave more difficult. If the [longitudinal EM] wave nature is realized, then applications can be imagined, in which the noise is used as useful signal. In the way that the scalar part in the wave equation doesn't have to be put to zero anymore to obtain freedom of contradiction, even optimizations of antennas or of capacitors are possible with regard to the dielectric losses by means of the calculation of the scalar part.

New in any case is the idea that the dielectric losses of a capacitor are eddy losses and not a defect in material of the insulating material. With that the capacitor losses correspond to a generated noise power. We also can say, every capacitor more or less produces noise! The electric field lines point from one capacitor plate to the other plate. If one plate radiates as a transmitter and the other plate functions as a receiver, then the field propagation takes place in the direction of the electric field pointer and that again is the condition for a longitudinal wave. Here the circle closes in the conclusion, the capacitor field mediates dielectric field vortices, which following the field lines found a [longitudinal EM] wave because of their scalar nature. The heating of the capacitor results from the decay of vortices.

The new field approach in synopsis
Proof could be furnished that an approximation is buried in Maxwell’s field equations and that they merely represent the special case of a new, dually formulated and more universal

The mathematical derivations of the Maxwell field and the wave equation disclose, of what the Maxwell approximation consists. The anti-vortex dual to the expanding eddy current with its skin effect is neglected. This contracting anti-vortex is called potential vortex. It is capable of forming structures and propagates as a scalar wave in longitudinal manner in badly conducting media like air or vacuum.

At relativistic velocities the potential vortices are subject to the Lorentz contraction. Since for scalar waves the propagation occurs longitudinally in the direction of an oscillating field pointer, the potential vortices experience a constant oscillation of size as a result of the oscillating propagation.

If one imagines the field vortex as a planar but rolled up transverse wave, then from the oscillation of size and with that of wavelength at constant swirl velocity with c follows a continual change in frequency, which is measured as a noise signal.

The noise proves to be the in the Maxwell equations neglected potential vortex term, which founds scalar waves. If at biological or technical systems, e.g. at antennas a noise signal is being measured, then that proves the existence of potential vortices, but it then also means that the scope of the Maxwell theory has been exceeded and erroneous concepts can be the result.

As an answer to the question about possible new technologies is pointed to two special properties.

1st potential vortices for reason of their particle nature carry momentum and energy. Since we are surrounded by noise vortices, an energy technical use of scalar waves would be feasible, where the noise power is withdrawn of the surroundings.

There is evidence that biological systems in nature cover their need for energy in this way. But at least an energy transmission with scalar waves already would be a significant progress with regard to the alternating current technology of today.

2nd the wavelength multiplied with the frequency results in the velocity of propagation v of a wave (λ⋅f = v), and that for scalar waves by no means is constant.

With that wavelength and frequency aren’t coupled anymore; they can be modulated separately, for which reason for scalar waves a whole dimension can be modulated additionally compared to the Hertzian wave.

In that the reason can be seen, why the human brain with just 10 Hz clock frequency is considerably more efficient than modern computers with more than 1 GHz clock frequency. Nature always works with the best technology, even if we haven’t yet understood it.

If we would try to learn of nature and an energy technical or an information technical use of scalar waves would occur, then probably nobody wanted to have our today still highly praised technology anymore. In the course of the greenhouse gases and the electro smog we have no other choice than to scientifically occupy us with scalar waves and their
technical use.

Besides that Konstantin Meyl is a vivid lecturer that really caught listeners, his topic of scalar and plasma waves was really captivating. Hearing about longitudinal electromagnetic waves based on vortex particle model really gave one something to think about after the conference. Not without reason, Meyl is called "Schwartzwald Tesla".

By Meyl, the scalar waves or Tesla waves are able to travel right through Faraday cage type shielding that stop ordinary transverse radio waves. Tesla's magnifying transmitter has been calculated to produce scalar waves with a velocity of about 1,5 times that of light. Meyl told that scalar waves be described as one case of Maxwell's equations.

About how longitudinal waves obviously exist even without plasma in the air and even in vacuum Meyl declares: "I have solved this question, by extending Maxwell's field theory for vortices of the electric field. These so-called potential vortices are able to form structure and they propagate in space for reason of their particle nature as a longitudinal shock wave. The model concept bases on the ring vortex model of Herrman von Helmholtz, which Lord Kelvin did make popular." Meyl has published books describing the fomulas.

Vortex , mass of fluid in whirling or rotary motion. To simplify the analysis, vortex motion usually describes motions in a frictionless fluid. In such cases the absence of friction would make it impossible to create or to destroy vortex motion. Motion in such a fluid would be a permanent flow pattern; the velocity of the fluid element instantaneously passing through a given point in space would be constant in time. Lines drawn so that their direction is that of the axis of rotation of the fluid are called vortex lines, and if these lines close on themselves they are called vortex rings. Hermann von Helmholtz was probably the first to investigate the properties of vortex motion; Lord Kelvin developed a theory of the material atom as a vortex ring; and J. C. Maxwell worked out a theory of electromagnetism, assuming that every magnetic tube of force was a vortex with an axis of rotation coinciding with the direction of the force. Many properties have been mathematically proved for the perfect frictionless fluid. In practice, however, their full realization is impossible because no frictionless fluid exists. To maintain a vortex motion a continuous energy supply to overcome friction is needed. A smoke ring is a familiar example of a typical vortex motion in which the medium is air. In this case the rings are stable for a short time because of the comparatively slight friction in air. An illustration of vortex motion in a liquid medium is the small whirlpool formed by water as it drains from a wash basin. In nature, illustrations of vortical motion on a larger scale are seen in waterspouts, whirlpools, and tornadoes. Investigations of sunspots reveal enormous vortices in the gases surrounding them. Professor Soljacic is also interested in various topics in nonlinear optical physics. Maxwell's equations as presented in most undergraduate text books are linear. However, all materials in nature are nonlinear (including vacuum), and sure enough, at high light intensities, optical phenomena become nonlinear, displaying a wide range of rich and beautiful behavior. For example, almost every general non-linear dynamics phenomenon, e.g., solitons, pattern formation, fractals, etc., can now be studied in optical material systems. More recently, Prof. Soljacic also became interested in investigating the feasibility of wireless power transfer, which he and colleagues have dubbed "WiTricity."

Here is a partial quote from a paper from a modern day Maxwell. Quaternions are a way to solve the unified field theory. More proof that if Maxwells work would be considered in its original form with all its subsets just maybe the world would see things differently.

Einstein's vision I: Classical unified field equations for gravity and electromagnetism using Riemannian quaternions
The unified field equations for an isolated source are generated by acting on the unified force field with an additional differential operator, Box* Box* A* = 4 pi J. This contains a quaternion representation of the Maxwell equations, a classical link to the quantum Aharonov-Bohm effect, and dynamic field equations for gravity. Vacuum and zero net current solutions to the unified field equations are discussed. The field equations conserve both electric charge density and mass density. Under a Lorentz transformation, the gravitational and electromagnetic fields are Lorentz invariant and Lorentz covariant respectively, but there are residual terms whose meaning is not clear presently. An additional constraint is required for gauge transformations of a massive field.

Einstein's vision using quaternions
Three of the four known forces in physics have been unified via the standard model:the electromagnetic, the weak, and the strong forces. The holdout remains gravity, the first force characterized mathematically by Isaac Newton. The parallels between gravity and electromagnetism are evident. Newton's law of gravity and Coulomb's law are inverse square laws. Both forces can be attractive, but Coulomb's law can also be a repulsive force. A longstanding goal of modern physics is to explain the similarities and differences between gravity and electromagnetism.

Albert Einstein had a specific idea for how to formulate an acceptable unified field theory (see Fig. 1, taken from A. Pais, "Subtle is the Lord..." the science and life of Albert Einstein", Claredon Pres, 1982). One unusual aspect of Einstein's view was that he believed the unified field would lead to a new foundation for quantum mechanics, an idea which is not shared by some of today's thinkers (S. Weinberg, "Dreams of a final theory," Pantheon Books, New York, 1992). Most of Einstein's efforts over 40 years were directed in a search to generalize Riemannian differential geometry in four dimensions.

To a degree which has pleasantly surprised the author, Einstein's vision to unify gravity and electromagnetism has been followed. The construction of a new 4-dimensional geometry is dictated by insights garnered from physics. Events in spacetime are composed of a scalar for time and a 3-vector for space. The four-dimensional topological algebraic field of quaternions has the same structure, so quaternions will be the starting point of this effort.

Laws of physics are expressed in a coordinate-independent way. The sum or difference of two quaternions can only be defined if the two quaternions in question share the same 4-basis. Riemannian quaternions make coordinate-independence explicit. In special relativity, regions in spacetime are delimited by the light cone, where the net change in 3-space is equal to the net change in time. The parity between changes in 3-space and time is constructed into the definition of a Riemannian quaternion. In general relativity, the field equations make the metric a dynamic variable. The basis vectors of Riemannian quaternions can be dynamic, so the metric can be dynamic. The dynamic nature of the basis vectors leads to the general equivalence principle, whereby any law, even those in electromagnetism, can be the result of a change in reference frame.

Physical laws are the result of simple Riemannian quaternion differential equations. First-order Riemannian quaternion differential equations create force fields for gravity, electricity, and magnetism. Second-order differential equations create dynamic field equations for gravity, the Maxwell equations for electromagnetism, and a classical counterpart to the Aharanov-Bohm effect of quantum mechanics. Third-order differential equations create conservation laws. Homogeneous solutions to the second order differential equations are related to gauge symmetry.

The second paper in this series of three investigates a unified force law, with a focus on a particular solution which may eliminate the need for dark matter to explain the mass distribution and velocity profile for spiral galaxies. The third paper develops a new approach to quaternion analysis. The equations of the first two papers are recast with the new definition of a quaternion derivative, resulting in a quantum unified field and force theory.

One unified force field from one potential field
For massless particles, the Maxwell equations are sufficient to explain classical and quantum electrodynamic phenomena in a gauge-invariant way. To unify electromagnetism with gravity, the gauge symmetry must be broken, opening the door to massive particles. Because of the constraints imposed by quaternion algebra, there is little freedom to choose the gauge with a simple quaternion expression. In the standard approach to the electromagnetic field, a differential 4-vector acts on a 4-vector potential in such a way as to create an antisymmetric second-rank tensor. The unified field hypothesis proposed involves a quaternion differential operator acting on a quaternion potential:

This is a natural suggestion with this algebra. The antisymmetric-matrix component of the unified field has the same elements as the standard electromagnetic field tensor. Define the electric field E as the even terms, the ones that will not change signs if the order of the differential operator and the potential are reversed. The magnetic field B is the curl of A, the odd term. The justification for proposing the unified force field hypothesis rests on the presence of the electric and magnetic fields.

In some ways, the above equation looks just like the old idea of combining a scalar gauge field with the electromagnetic field strength tensor, as Gupta did in 1950 in order to quantize the Maxwell equations. He concluded that although useful because it is written in manifestly relativistic form, no new results beyond the Maxwell equation are obtained.

Unified Field equations
In the standard approach to generating the Maxwell equations, a differential operator acts on the electromagnetic field strength tensor. A unified field hypothesis for an isolated source is proposed which involves a differential quaternion operator acting on the unified field:


The field equations involving the gravitational force field are dynamic and depend on four dimensions. This makes them likely to be consistent with special relativity. Since they are generated alongside the Maxwell equations, one can reasonably expect the differential equations will share many properties, with the ones involving the symmetric-matrix gravitational force field being more symmetric than those of the electromagnetic counterpart.

The unified source can be defined in terms of more familiar charge and current densities by separately setting the gravity or electromagnetic field equal to zero. In these cases, the source is due only to electricity or mass respectively. This leads to connections between the unified source, mass, and charge:

The mechanics of the Lorentz transformation itself might require careful re-examination when so strictly confined to quaternion algebra. For a boost along the x-axis, if only the differential transformation is in the opposite direction, then the electromagnetic field is Lorentz covariant with the residual term residing with the gravitational field. The meaning of this observation is even less clear. Only relatively recently has DeLeo been able to represent the Lorentz group using real quaternions (S. De Leo, "Quaternions and special relativity," J. Math. Phys., 37(6):2955-2968, 1996). The delay appears odd since the interval of special relativity is the scalar of the square of the difference between two events. In the real 4x4 matrix representation, the interval is a quarter of the trace of the square. Therefore, any matrix with a trace of one that does not distort the length of the scalar and 3-vector can multiply a quaternion without effecting the interval. One such class is 3-dimensional, spatial rotations. An operator that adds nothing to the trace but distorts the lengths of the scalar and 3-vector with the constraint that the difference in lengths is constant will also suffice. These are boosts in an inertial reference frame. Boosts plus rotations form the Lorentz group.

Three types of gauge transformations will be investigated: a scalar, a 3-vector, and a quaternion gauge field. Consider an arbitrary scalar field transformation of the potential:



The electromagnetic fields are invariant under this transformation. An additional constraint on the gauge field is required to leave the gravitational force field invariant, namely that the scalar gauge field solves a homogeneous elliptical equation. From the perspective of this proposal, the freedom to choose a scalar gauge field for the Maxwell equations is due to the omission of the gravitational force field.

Transform the potential with an arbitrary 3-vector field:



This time the gravitational force field is invariant under a 3-vector gauge field transformation. Additional constraints can be placed on the 3-vector gauge field to preserve a chosen electromagnetic invariant. For example, if the difference between the two electromagnetic fields is to remain invariant, then the 3-vector gauge field must be the solution to an elliptical equation. Other classes of invariants could be examined.

The scalar and 3-vector gauge fields could be combined to form a quaternion gauge field. This gauge transformation would have the same constraints as those above to leave the fields invariant. Is there any such gauge field? The quaternion gauge field can be represented the following way:


If a force field is created by hitting this gauge transformation with a differential operator, then the gauge field becomes a unified field equation. Since vacuum solutions have been found for those equations, a quaternion gauge transformation can leave the field invariant.

Future directions
The fields of gravity and electromagnetism were unified in a way consistent with Einstein's vision, not his technique. The guiding principles were simple but unusual:generate expressions familiar from electromagnetism using quaternions, striving to interpret any extra terms as being due to gravity. The first hypothesis about the unified field involved only a quaternion differential operator acting on a potential, no extra terms added by hand. It contained the typical potential representation of the electromagnetic field, along with a symmetric-matrix force field for gravity. The second hypothesis concerned a unified field equation formed by acting on the unified field with one more differential operator. All the Maxwell equations are included explicitly or implicitly. Additional terms suggested the inclusion of a classical representation of the Aharanov-Bohm effect. Four linearly independent unified field equations exist, but only the hyperbolic and elliptic cases were discussed. A large family of vacuum solutions exists, and will require future analysis to appreciate. To work within the guidelines of this paper, one should avoid solutions represented by complex-valued quaternions.

Why did this approach work? The hypothesis that initiated this line of research was that all events in spacetime could be represented by quaternions, no matter how the events were generated. This is a broad hypothesis, attempting to reach all areas covered by physics. Based on the equations presented in this paper, a logical structure can be constructed, starting from events (see Fig. 2). A set of events forms a pattern that can be described by a potential. The change in a potential creates a field. The change in field creates a field equation. The terms that do not change under differentiation of a field equation form conservation laws.

Looky what I found!
The Maxwell equations only describe transverse waves for which the field pointes oscillate perpendicular to the direction of Propagation. If we derive the field vector from a scalar potential, then this approach immediately leads to a inhomogeneous wave equation which is called a plasma wave. Solutions are known like the electron plasma which are longitudinal oscillations of the electron density known as Langmuir Waves.

Tesla's experiments and modern experiments with electronic parts shows that the longitudinal wave exists without plasma and vacuum in the air.

From what I understood it is always the combination of the two wave possibillities. Somewhat like electricity en magnetism? So maybe indeed for instance Birkeland currents/ropes etc. can have a dual description.

Langmuir waves are longitudinal plasma oscillations.
Longitudinal waves appearing in a plasma on account of a perturbation of electric neutrality. In the case of a cold unmagnetized plasma, and also for large wave-lengths, the frequency of these waves is, by definition, equal to the plasma frequency.

I'm still digesting all the material you posted, but I have a few remarks to help you weed out the bad theories, for better progress of science...

1. Please do not waste any time on Myron Evan's theories. If Einstein's General Relativity is bad, ECE is an order worse. If Einstein's theory turns spacetime into Yello, then Evans turns it into soapscum. I actually bought his ECE book to study it, but it's the worst 65 dollars I ever spend. Here is a qualification of a recent Noble price winner about his work:

2. The skin effect and other "vortex" type effect are caused by "evanescent waves". The one-liner explanation is that a wave that gets fully reflected is physically not reflected at an infinitely small barrier. The wave dies out exponentially at the "other" side of the barrier. Interesting application is the recent announcement of MIT that they could transfer short range wireless electric power through these type of waves.

3. Resonant circuits can transfer power through phase coupling relatively independent of distance. It is pretty well explained in the Collective Electrodynamics booklet from Carver Mead that I have referred to a few times already.

Hope I did'nt bother you. Keep on posting these great materials and links!

The whole purpose was to return to the original work of Maxwell, Tesla, Faraday. I hope its served its purpose.

I agree about ECE and Einstein. That was three months ago and the origins of a learning curve. I saved the money on that purchase. I figured it out as the Aether came into view.

To me it all boils down to gravity. The way any new model explains gravity is the best way for me to determine if its accurate. Thats my lithmus test. I think you must have read my view on modern cosmology and gravity and the modern four force model. Gravity is pure dogma as currently taught. The inability to isolate a charge carrier is the reason its dogma and not science. I therefore contend it is not a primary force.

The model I have proposed is the model supported by all those scientist mentioned in many post of mine. Three dimensions of space, three dimensions of fields, all at right angles to each other. They also agree on the archetype dual vortex spiral opposites that originate from the three primary fields and this model fits all parameters as explained by Meyl.

I also contend gravity is a superposition Subset of the Scalar/Tempic and Electric Fields with a constant Electric component and a modulating Scalar component.

Against his book.
Carver Mead is the guy who got us all started on VLSI technology, so all Silicon Valley types owe him a big favor: Clearly a technologist of vision and genius! By the way, he recounts in the introductory chapter how he got started on this issue: this part is definitely worth reading.

That said, I did not find that this book presented anything like a systematic presentation of electrodynamics or quantum mechanics. His main tool for connecting different results and ideas of electromagnetism is a superconducting loop, which he uses in various "thought experiments." It's interesting and novel, but not enough to really provide a foundation for a complete framework for one of the great theories of classical physics.

His criticisms of the Copenhagen school of quantum mechanics are not new, and generally seem to me to have been adequately discussed and refuted during the scientific consensus-building on quantum mechanics during the 1930's. Perhaps the strongest new piece of evidence that he brings to the table on this point, that some folks (Barut & Dowling) have recently provided a derivation of the energy levels for the hydrogen atom which is compatible with something like the original Schroedinger interpretation (of the amplitude squared as charge density) is only quoted, not described: you'll need to look up the article in Physical Review A (1990, Phys.Rev.A 41, pp. 2284-2294) to see if you can understand or believe it. This is very disappointing, since Mead's book is only 135 pages long: it seems to me that he should have made more of an effort to at least sketch what seems to be the key touchstone for his proposed approach. My impression is that he ended the book in a bit of a rush; but that's not an adequate excuse.

In summary, this book can be interesting, especially if you know some E&M and can follow the equations: there are some cute connections that may be fun to check out more carefully. But in the end, I don't think this is going to make any substantial impact on the way most physicists will think about electrodynamics or quantum mechanics.

Carver Meade is a Pioneer. Like Einstein, he recognized that Maxwell's Equations (ME) are not correct because they are based on the assumption that the electron is a point particle. This myth was handed down from the Greek Democritus. Like Milo Wolff before him, Meade deduces that the electron is quantum wave structure, as proposed by Schroedinger.

Meade uses the properties of a wave structure to provide new equations for the analysis of electronic engineering ciruits - very useful in the design of micro chips. He also shows how the collective behavior of waves is the cause of low-temperature behavior.

This book has an exciting and promising title and it starts with an interesting discussion about how Feynman and other great physicists inspired the author. One therefore starts reading with great expectations. Unfortunately these are soon gone. There is no coherent exposition of electromagnetism to be found in the book. A few specific areas are treated in an original but non-convincing way. The author conveys some scattered insights but does not produce anything useful in the way of a new and better theory of electromagnetism.

I happen to agree with the author that the vector potential is an important concept which perhaps sometimes is not given the full attention it deserves in some texts, but that is about it. I cannot recommend the book as textbook on any level of education. As an historical document it might have some interest. The author says that Feynman smiled in an embarassed way when he told him that he was the reason he had gone into physics. I now understand why Feynman was embarassed: Carver Mead may be a brilliant inventor and engineer but he does not have a clue as to what one would mean by "foundations of electromagnetism" in the way Feynman would have understood these words.

For the work
This is a fascinating book. Dr. Mead attempts to rethink electrodynamics, assuming that fields have no existence independent of the particles that generate them -- thus, electromagnetic effects act "at a distance" along lines of zero interval in 4-space. One of the most interesting tidbits is the treatment of a "quantum transition" as the nonlinear interaction of two dipoles. It is difficult to put aside a lifetime's training in picturing electric and magnetic fields, and I'm divided on whether the approach is really superior to the conventional method, but it's certainly fun to think about.

Despite his preface upbraiding physicists for their work of the past 50-75 years, the main text makes reasonable claims based upon well-founded experimental and theoretical results. The book endorses earlier work of Einstein, Feynmann, Reimann, Lorentz, Maxwell, Planck, and others while making computational and conceptual adjustments to accommodate modern experimental results.

Also in the text, Bohr and other die-hard quantum statisticians are continually under attack for their poo-pooing of possible phenomena, algorithms, and concepts behind the observed quantum behavior. Bohr and his clan, apparently, claimed that the statistics made up the whole baseball team of quantum physics--and that we should not, and could not, look further.

In refuting this micro-labotomic approach of Bohr, Dr. Mead makes reference to systems--macroscopic in size--that exhibit quantum behaviors. While he mentions lasers, masers, semiconductors, superconductors, and other systems in the text, the primary results of the book hinge upon experimental results from the field of superconductors. He points out that physics can be split into several areas:

Classical Mechanics explains un-coherent, uncharged systems such as cannon balls, planets, vehicles, etc.
Classical Electrodynamics explains un-coherent, charged systems such as conductors, currents, and their fields.
Thermodynamics explains how macroscopic statistics, such as temperature and entropy, guide the time evolution of systems.
Modern Quantum Mechanics tries to explain coherent, charged systems.

Here 'coherent' refers to quantum coherency, where many particles/atoms march to the same drum such as the photons in a laser, or the electrons in a superconductor, or any isolated one or two particles. Another description of coherency is that the states are quantum entangled; their time-evolution depends upon each other.

The thrust of Carver's book: QM applies to all matter--not just small systems or isolated particles--is well made. He brings up experimental data from superconductors to illustrate that the phenomenon of coherent quantum entanglement can, and does, occur at macroscopic scales; and that such behavior is very quantum. Thus he proves, quite convincingly, that quantum mechanics applies to all coherent systems.

He then closes by making some very important points. (1) He shows that quantum behavior of such systems can be expressed in quantum language (wave function), relativistic language (four-vectors), or electrodynamics (vector potential, scalar potential) in an equivalent fashion. This is important, as it proves that a superconductor is macroscopic, exhibits quantum behavior, and that these quantitative results agree with those found from the other approaches. (2) He makes the point that the quantum and relativistic equations show that electromagnetic phenomena consist of two parts: one traveling forward in time; the other backward in time. Feynmann and others have said this for a long time, and he shows how thermodynamics (or un-coherent behavior) forces what we see as only time-evolution in one direction in un-coherent systems. (3) He illustrates, modeling single atoms as tiny superconducting resonators, that two atoms that are coherently linked will start exchanging energy. This causes an exponential, positive-feedback loop that ends with each atom in a quantum eigenstate. Thus quantum collapse is neither discontinuous, nor instantaneous; and in fact makes a lot of sense. (4) He explains, using four-vectors, that all points on a light-cone are near each other in four space. This point--together with (2)--shows that there's no causality contradiction between relativity and quantum mechanics. For example, he explains that two entangled particles, such as photons light years apart, can affect each other immediately if one falls into an eigenstate, since the four-dimensional distance between them (R1 dot R2) is zero. Although separated in three space, they're neighbors in four space. Through these demonstrations and proofs, he successfully suggests that there is a way to further develop the 'behavior of charged, coherent systems' such that quantum mechanics and relativity will agree--but the conceptual changes he suggests are necessary and must be further developed. Also, he admits that a better, more appropriate mathematical and computational methods will be needed, since the complexity of coherent systems runs as n^2.

Pleasantly, then, the book makes elegant, defensible, mathematical and conceptual steps to resolve some nagging points of understanding. Also, the narrative gives the best introduction to electrodynamics and quantum mechanics that I've ever seen. Since the theoretical criticisms and experimental data are quite valid, his proposed resolutions are eye-opening and valuable. The methods he suggests greatly simply thinking about complicated quantum/classical problems. New approaches for future theoretical research are also suggested. Despite the dark tone in the preface, the book is positive, enlightening, and well anchored to accepted, modern experimental results and theoretical work.

It's a short book, about 125 pages, and well worth the read. Familiarity with classical and quantum physics, and special relativity, is required to get the most out of it. As you can tell, I enjoyed it tremendously.
I am not so sure that maxwell thought of the electron as a point particle...rather as a vortex as one can see when reading his work so Mead makes a mistake on that point.

Thanks for the links to the reviews. I think both articles give a good impression, the first article is really defensive and the second one really seems to get the idea of the book.

The reason that I liked the book is that I have studied many theories, websites, textbooks to get a greater understanding and the Carver Mead book was the first where I had the feeling that it helped to get more insights. Most other ones are just another pile of more things you have to believe...
The Mead book is the result of what we learned in the last 70 years to understand things in an easier way. I think he is hitting the nail on the head wrt. to this behaviour of coherent systems, which also explains why fields are instantaneous. This is what I think (what Mead also mentions himself) is real progress in science.

Another person that follows a similar path as Mead is Randell Mills with his Classical Quantum Mechanics. His models are based on a boundary condition on Maxwell equations that the charge distribution should not radiate when bound into an atoms and molecules. I have not been able to read all his work on this (it is thousands of pages). To his credit he is actually able to calculate atoms and molecules though pure algebratic formulas, while regular QM is too complex for anything more than a hydrogen atom :shock:
