Quasar HE0450-2958

Hundreds of TPODs have been published since the summer of 2004. In particular, we invite discussion of present and recent TPODs, perhaps with additional links to earlier TPOD pages. Suggestions for future pages will be welcome. Effective TPOD drafts will be MORE than welcome and could be your opportunity to become a more active part of the Thunderbolts team.

Quasar HE0450-2958

Post by jacmac » Wed Dec 30, 2009 9:27 am

I was reading a recent TPOD and followed a link to the European Southern Observatory web site. I found a Press release and photo from Nov. 30,09 that was quite amazing. It was the quasar HE0450-2958. Someone with much more knowledge than myself in these matters should see this picture. It looks like a textbook "z" pinch with one end of a jet lighting up a nearby galaxy, but the jets are not filamentary at all?? The web site is www.eso.org/public/news/eso0946/#1.
Sorry for not making a "link" but I don't know how to save this post and then retrieve it to put in the link. Thanks,
jacmac.

The Great Dog doesn't see how anything could be deduced from that blurred and highly processed image.

There is another forum topic covering this.
Black Hole Caught Zapping Galaxy Into Existence?

The image at the top of the page on this link (http://www.eso.org/public/news/eso0946/#1) is just an artists impression.

Image

There isn't enough resolution in the image of the actual quasar and galaxy to determine whether there is filamentation in the jets or not.

Image

The quasar is the bright object in the middle, the interacting galaxy is to the lower left and a bright radio lobe emitted by the quasar is to the upper right.

Thanks solray for pointing out my error. My first reaction was that this was not real. I did not enlarge the smaller picture where they said "artist impression". My bad. Never mind!!

Are quasars similar to very large stars and are they spherical like stars? I know that black holes don't power them because they don't exist. Electricity powers quasars, stars, nebulas and planets.
