More pics of Mars dunes with black marks

Unread post by bdw000 » Sun Jul 13, 2008 3:39 pm

Don't know how to post pics.

Another good pic of what looks like very similar ice dunes with black marks can be found here:

Another here:

Unfortunately, van Flandern seems to be unaware of EU theory as applied to rilles. Like Hoagland, he thinks the rilles look "artificial."

And he thinks lichtenberg figures might be trees:

Oh well.

Going by the mediocrity principle wouldn't these results suggest there is a lot of sub surface water ice on Mars?

Also, the Cassini team seem to be a little peeved at Phoenix stealing all the limelight: Titan lake
PASADENA, Calif. -- NASA scientists have concluded that at least one of the large lakes observed on Saturn's moon Titan contains liquid hydrocarbons, and have positively identified the presence of ethane. This makes Titan the only body in our solar system beyond Earth known to have liquid on its surface.

I see NASA has announced a nuanced discovery of water on Mars. Cynic that I am I remain unconvinced

Yes, they claim to have found water, but what else? This is strange.

I guess that is one of the perks of being President, not having to wait to read about 'things' in the public domain of MSM.

Tholins perhaps?
Since 1 % 1, 1 * 1 and 1 - 1 do not add up, we must conclude that 1 + 1 is 3.

Apparently they are matching info from the Thermal and Evolved-Gas Analyzer (TEGA) with the results from the ice sample. Are they finding that the gases sublimating from the ice contain elements that have been altered by a lifeform?

This is very intriguing.

Perchlorates in Mars Soil. Electrochemical / Electrolytic?

Unread post by FS3 » Tue Aug 05, 2008 5:32 am

This is really "whew"!

After analyzing results from soil samples delivered several weeks ago by the Wet Chemistry Lab of Phoenix's "Microscopy, Electrochemistry, and Conductivity Analyzer" (MECA), the results are suggesting one of the Martian soil constituents may be perchlorate, a highly oxidizing substance.

NASA Spacecraft Analyzing Martian Soil Data
...Confirmation of the presence of perchlorate and supporting data is important prior to scientific peer review and subsequent public announcements. The results from Sunday's TEGA experiment, which analyzed a sample taken directly above the ice layer, found no evidence of this compound.

"This is surprising since...
LOL! Again the usual codewort - "surprise"!

After all it may not have come as a surprise at all if they would have read THIS ARTICLE ABOUT THE ELECTRIC CREATION OF PERCHLORATE:
Science News – February 2, 2005
Atmospheric processes may create perchlorate

...The group also passed a sodium chloride aerosol through an electric discharge, which simulated lightning, and detected perchlorate each time, with a ratio of perchlorate to chloride that was two orders of magnitude greater than the control. Perchlorate even formed when salt solutions were exposed to ozone and UV light, simulating desert conditions. Chemist Glen Miller at the University of Nevada, Reno, has found that photochemical oxidation on soil can also generate perchlorate....
Anything else?
