We had a 3.1 EQ in Oklahoma early this morning at 35.571N, 97.094W.

I wonder if we will also have a 3 or 4 EQ around Sunday?

There was also a 7.0 EQ near Okinawa, Japan about an hour ago.

Hi,

For Oklahoma we need to look for geomagnetic activity ~13 days ago;

Image

If you look at the "A index" (mid latitudes, high latitudes,and planetary) for the same date on the same days it was elevated too. (A index is a function of k index)

http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/ftpdir/indices/DGD.txt

For Japan's longitude we need to look two days back to the 245h;

Image

This geomagnetic data is only preliminary. To see the final numbers we will need to wait a while.

The math and timing work.

Hello,

It appears the polarization of the solar plasma matters as to whether the plasma leaks into the magnetosphere into a northern or southernimperfection.

It is still early for California but Chile has had reaction;
27 Feb 2010 06:34:17 UTC - 8.3 Magnitude - OFFSHORE MAULE, CHILE

27 Feb 2010 08:01:24 UTC - 6.9 Magnitude - OFF COAST OF BIO-BIO, CHILE
The lightning in this image is an indicator where the plasma is off the coast of the California coast;

http://wwlln.net/WWLLN_movies/Movie_of_ ... as_BIG.gif

So far the only elvated earthquake activity in California is;
27 Feb 2010 07:10:43 UTC - 3.8 Magnitude - CENTRAL CALIFORNIA

27 Feb 2010 06:56:03 UTC - 4.1 Magnitude - CENTRAL CALIFORNIA
I do not think California is done yet, but I need to work on my targeting. I am sure it has to do with the incoming solar plasma's polarization (whether it contains more solar north magnetic field or more solar south magnetic field). This would indicate which crack in the magnetosphere it leaks into (northern or southern) easiest.

My timing of events still holds.

We had another quake in Oklahoma. It was a 4.4 less than an hour ago. Location was 35.623°N, 96.762°W. I heard about it on the Weather Channel. One of the weather girls asked their EQ expert-for-the-day (Leon) if it could be related to the 8.8 and others in Chile. He said it was not.

Since we were expecting a quake in Oklahoma this weekend, it likely was related to the quake in Chile, wasn't it? Wasn't it caused by the same bubble of plasma?

Hi,

It was related to the same geomagnetic storm of February 15th.

Solar plasma ejected from the sun carries part of the sun's magnetic field. Some is polarized north, some is polarized south. Depending on the ratio of the polarization I suspect it affects where it leaks into the magnetosphere, either in the northern hemisphere or the southern hemisphere.

I would have to suspect that the solar plasma of February 15th had more of the sun's northern polarization. This would repel it from the northern hemisphere of earth and it would leak into a southern magnetosphere leak. This is because similar polarizations repel while opposite polarizations attract.

If you look at the below map, California lines up with the edge of the Nazca tectonic plate. When that plasma reached that tectonic fault the plate moved, and an earthquake ocurred where the plate snagged.

Image

Both Chile and Oklahoma were due to the February 15th solar storm. One was caused by northern polarized plasma while the other was caused by southern polarized plasma.

When the solar plasma hit the earth on February 15th it split along the lines of its polarization. Since most of it was polarized north it leaked into the southern hemisphere. California was lucky.

Hi,

If the Oklahoma quakes are caused by a small tectonic fault or the Ames Structure it gives a small target. This should mean that there would be evidence of a rotating magnetic field created by the plasmoid as it grounds out;

If you were to look at a rotating magnetic field from the top down it would look like a spiral galaxy. Galaxies evolve in shape over time. Their matter is steered by electromotive magnetic force of a rotating,axial magnetic field.

So is there evidence in Oklahoma geology, centered on the Ames Structure that mimics the evolving shape of a galaxy?

In this image I have overlaid the shape of a rotating, axial, magnetic field over the satelite image of Ames, OK;

Click the link to see it full size;
Image

http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n18/ ... lahoma.jpg

Can you see any patterns in the land that slightly mimic the shape of the force exerted by a rotating magnetic field following the right hand rule?

This only works because the Ames Structure is a small target, grounding point. A long, tectonic fault line would not have a decernable pattern for plasma can discharge at any latitude along the fault.

Here is the data on the solar plasma that includes February 15th;

Image
http://umtof.umd.edu/pm/
From top to bottom, the 4 panels represent the following solar wind proton parameters:

1) the bulk speed in kilometers per second
2) the density (protons per cm3)

3) the most probable thermal speed (km/sec) = Sqrt(2kT/m)

4) the flow direction in the plane perpendicular to the ecliptic plane, with positive values indicating flow FROM the south. On rare occassions the spacecraft's roll angle is changed for brief periods, during which the derived flow direction will refer to a different plane. A list of such times is available.

Earthquakes ... affects the Earth’s rotation, said Richard Gross, a geophysicist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, who uses a computer model to calculate the effects.

“The length of the day should have gotten shorter by 1.26 microseconds (millionths of a second),” Gross, said today in an e-mailed reply to questions...

Santa Maria Island off the coast near Concepcion, Chile’s second-largest city, may have been raised 2 meters (6 feet) as a result of the latest quake, Rietbrock said today in a telephone interview. He said the rocks there show evidence pointing to past earthquakes shifting the island upward in the past....

The magnitude 9.1 Sumatran in 2004 that generated an Indian Ocean tsunami shortened the day by 6.8 microseconds

Heh--they're saying the day has been shortened by the Chile EQ.

I was thinking that there had been some more expansion of the globe as a result of these extra-large EQs. I would have thought that would result in a slower spin rate of the planet, and that would result in a longer day.

Hey, Tolenio--can you tell from your data whether any single bubble has more northerly- or southerly-polarized substance before you see when and where it grounds out?

Hello,

That is an excellent question. Does any NASA satellite measure the ratio of northern to southern polarized incoming solar plasma?

I do not know at this point. Possibly somebody out there does.

What drives the Interplanetary Magnetic Field Angle? Does the angle respond to the ratio of incoming solar plasma polarization?

Image

http://space.rice.edu/ISTP/dials.html
Interplanetary Magnetic Field Polar Angle:
(Derived) This quantity is the angle between the IMF and the geomagnetic axis. When the IMF is southward, antiparallel fields near the magnetospheric subsolar point allow merging between the IMF and geomagnetic fields. This process increases the transport of solar wind mass, momentum, and energy into the Earth's magnetosphere. This process can also open the magnetosphere to solar energetic particle radiation. In severe conditions this radiation can threaten high altitude aircraft in high latitude and polar regions. Under less severe conditions this radiation can still threaten polar orbiting spacecraft. This quantity depends on IMF components measured by ACE/MAG.

Hello,

Simply track back ~13 days on the mid latitudes and planetary A index to see what was going on at theat time. You will find elevated geomagnetic activity.

Your original queries that started this thread had to do with the Ames structure in NW Okla. I have been watching EQ activity in OK for nearly a year. There was one EQ last April that was east of Enid, but every noteworthy EQ since then has worked its way to the SE of there, and tends to hover around Jones/Choctaw.

Should we expect to see activity near the Ames structure instead of just east of Oklahoma City?

Or could this be a case of a "hot spot" that is no longer under a significant landform that would indicate past EDM activity? I'm thinking of things like Hawaii and Yellowstone, where you can trace what appear to be previous eruptions or other EDM activity that appears to have moved on to the NE, leaving the hot spot behind.

The Ames structure is thought to be a meteorite impact site. There is another in St. Clair county Missouri.

I have been looking for a reaon for the EQ's in southeast Missouri and they recently found an impact site in Missouri.

These sites are perfect for predicting my theory. For whatever reason these sites seem to be a good grounding point for plasmoids.

So far the EQ's seem to happen primarily southeast of the impact sites. This would appear to be where the most electromotive force is exerted, or at least where the quakes occur..

There will alwyas be EQ's associated with these sites.

Does this explain Chile?

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2008 ... spring.htm
What are the signs of spring? They are as familiar as a blooming Daffodil, a songbird at dawn, a surprising shaft of warmth from the afternoon sun.

And, oh yes, don't forget the aurora borealis.

Spring is aurora season. For reasons not fully understood by scientists, the weeks around the vernal equinox are prone to Northern Lights. Canadians walking their dogs after dinner, Scandinavians popping out to the sauna, Alaskan Huskies on the Iditarod trail—all they have to do is look up and behold, green curtains of light dancing across the night sky. Spring has arrived!

THEMIS may have found the substorm power supply--and a springtime connection:

"The satellites have detected magnetic 'ropes' [Birkeland Currents] connecting Earth's upper atmosphere directly to the Sun," says Dave Sibeck, project scientist for the mission at the Goddard Space Flight Center. "We believe that solar wind particles flow in along these ropes, providing energy for geomagnetic storms and auroras."

It turns out that rope-like magnetic connections between Sun and Earth are favored in springtime. It's a matter of geometry: As Earth goes around in its orbit, Earth's tilted magnetic poles make different angles with respect to the Sun, tipping back and forth with a one-year cadence. Around the time of the equinox, Earth's magnetic field is best oriented for "connecting-up" with the Sun.

But wait, there are two equinoxes, spring and fall, with similar magnetic geometry. Indeed, studies show that fall is aurora season, too. Geomagnetic disturbances are almost twice as likely in spring and fall vs. winter and summer, according to 75 years of historical records analyzed by solar physicist David Hathaway of the Marshall Space Flight
