Re: New planet that cannot exist
I got this in my mobile app daily science news yesterday.
Once again scientists are "baffled" LOL.
The planet is too close to its star, orbits too fast, and a host of other unexplainable phenomena...
Oh well, it's just an anomaly, pretend it never happened. How many exceptions will it take?
I am almost positive that the densities of stellar objects are mostly wrong as they are based on Newtonian calculations.
After-all, it can't be verified, it's not as if you can put a planet on a scale and weigh it.

Captured planet?
http://phys.org/news/2013-12-astronomer ... tml#ajTabs
The mechanics of captured planets or systems may be resolved observationally given a number of instances. Seems improbable beyond belief that this planet formed closer and "fell" away.
Le coup de grace to accretion theory?

When we look closer to home we see similar.

Re: Captured planet?
About protoplanetary discs I think neither they are the signature of young stars nor the incubator of planets. They are circumstancial phases of star lifes, usually due to catastrophes. Our own Solar System could have been the hell of dusty in the last 15,000 years or further back.

This is what passes for astronomy these days. I wonder if there are rain forests and dinosaurs, like Venus?

Abundant 'Mini-Neptunes'
Sub-Neptunian planets range in size from about 1.5 to 4 times the size of Earth ------- …But the majority of them appear to have a rocky core encased in a hydrogen- and helium-rich envelope. These kinds of mysterious planets don't exist in the solar system. The planets vary from having a puffy, thick envelope to having no envelope at all.
Would someone please explain how helium is retained in the atmosphere?
Could these be "young" planets?

http://milesmathis.com/atmo2.pdfWe are taught that the atmosphere of Jupiter is mainly hydrogen gas
and helium gas, but these are just passing through. The percentages are so high only because Jupiter is
casting off so much hydrogen and helium at all times. Jupiter is made of hydrogen and helium,
remember, and it has no real surface, so the H2 and He2 shouldn't be considered permanent
atmosphere. They are part of the transient atmosphere that is moving up rather quickly through the
more permanent atmosphere of methane and ammonia.

Ahhhh, that makes sense...Thanks...They are part of the transient atmosphere that is moving up rather quickly through the more permanent atmosphere of methane and ammonia.

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune were brown dwarfs. The sun was part of a double star system consisting of it and Jupiter. The Saturn system consisted of it, Uranus and Neptune in a Herbig-Haro configuration. In those times all five bodies were in arc mode (the sun) or glow mode (the "Jovian planets."

Potentially another captured planet (or dwarf? ) at about 150 AU from its star. Maybe the capture process is more gentle than traumatic.

Probably in polar/Herbig-Haro configuration. All four Jovian "planets" also have expulsion disks/rings that are charactaristic of stars--as they once were fully-fledged stars.

Does our sun have such a disk?
I would expect disks or rings to be fission products.
thanks...

Monster Storms Raging on Failed StarsWhat’s exciting to scientists is that the study’s failed stars appear to share many of the same characteristics as their little cousins, Jupiter-like gas giant planets.
