Tiny star / giant flare! What's up with that?

(The Mouse That Roared: Pipsqueak Star Unleashes Monster Flare)
http://www.spacedaily.com/reports/The_M ... e_999.html

It appears a "tiny star" not unlike the sun, has just unleashed a rather stunning solar flare about 1000+ times as big as a typical solar flare on our sun...

Good times! Glad it's not us...

One has to wonder why this giant flare. One postulates that electrical
input was the cause of this outburst. If this is the case and because
this star is near the Solar System, one has to wonder if other nearby
stars have flared in the last thousand years or so. Then it might be
possible to track the proposed electrical pulse that caused this flare.
One must also consider the possibility of a wave causing the flare.

This is like a house just down the street from yours bursting into flames
with an unknown cause. You would take note !

What do mean what's up with that? Doesn't everyone know it's the sudden release of stored energy in the magnetic field lines blah, blah, blah, blah, ...

Sorry, I must have missed that due to sitting in the corner with my foil dunce cap on... :D

(Must have a sense of humor about these things!)
