Looking at the Board's Mission, I'm familiar with the Hale-Bop comet which I witnessed in 1996. Where, later, scientists recovered some material from a comet.
Personal viewing led me to believe that the comet was in fact, mostly made up of planetary debris. Not from our solar system, but rather had collided with a distant planet, and winded it's way to within our area.
Just from observation, and the way the sun ionized the inner tail, I'd say, from pure speculation; the comet contained much organic matter. And, given it's "assignment", where it's trajectory was almost driven, contained a significant deflection of activity.
The observations yield that the comet was infact, a disturbingly active one. Where the matter was, well, diverse. Containing many, many manipulated forms...
