Magnetohydrodynamics Coronal Prediction

Note: Last week, NASA-supported researchers at Predictive Science Inc. used magnetohydrodynamic models of the sun's atmosphere to predict the appearance of this solar eclipse. Take a look at Rosengarten's photo one more time, then compare it to the prediction. Good match!

Magnetohydrodynamics is based on magnetic reconnection and such stuff.
It has as much predictive value as Astrology,
because both are based on the idea that symbolic lines have any real effect.

so it is purely coincidental that the model created on 8/14 matched what was observed during the eclipse

It's very impressive that MHD modeling can generate such detailed computer models and simulations. That's definitely an advantage of using the B orientation of events. On the other hand, I lack belief that such a "magnetic" oriented model actually works in the lab. :)

Circuit theory alone really doesn't provide the same level of detail as MHD simulations. Nicely done.

Did I say that predictions in astrology are bad?

The power of prediction comes from managing the data.

There is some likeness. There are at least as many misses.
The real corona is more filamentary, with many fine rays radiating out.
The prediction has two overemphasized streamers, and missed the third streamer in the north east.
The two main streamers give the appearance of likeness, yet the angles are wrong in the prediction.
The two smaller glows, north and west on the prediction, don't match.

All in all, more miss than hit, I think.
