https://phys.org/news/2017-06-galaxy-al ... years.html
A new study led by Michael West of Lowell Observatory reveals that the most massive galaxies in the universe have been aligned with their surroundings for the past ten billion years. It is the furthest back in time that this phenomenon has ever been seen.
The galaxies are aligned by the Birkeland current that they are embedded in, and they remain oriented along the Birkeland current and aligned with each other. Indeed the galaxies are "wired together" for as far as the eye can see just as EU/PC theory would predict.

One is that giant galaxies grow by accreting smaller neighbors along preferred directions that reflect the cosmic web, a vast network of filaments connecting galaxies on large scales
Still putting accreting before the filaments, but at least this theory acknowledges the existence of these filaments and hints at relation between them and the orientation of said galaxies, even though they have the relations wrong/backwards.
