For any given star ensconced within the tube-like "arm" of a galaxy, spiral or other wise, what does "open space" mean?
A glass tube of plasma with a voltage difference at the ends is a closed environment.
It is a man made circuit.
The sun is ensconced within IT'S heliosphere; which in turn is ensconced within the tube-like "arm" of a galaxy.
By "open" I only mean not confined in a glass tube.
The solar system is a naturally SELF MADE thing.
IMO, the "circuit" of the solar system is:
SPHERICAL

With
A very large BODY in the center, the GROUND. (below the photosphere)
Surrounded at great distance by the HELIOSPHERE, the solar system "bubble" within the galactic electric plasma; the power source of the sun.
Now think of the entire solar system FULL of plasma with the same density as the galactic arm plasma.
ONLY, the plasma is collected in toward the center, concentrated toward the ground,(Dr. Scott's drift current) and the result is the plasmoid we call the sun.

Well of course.

There is overall agreement here; just slightly different approaches. I’m very much impressed by the section highlighted in red because it is one of the ways that I view circuital relationships as well. Yes, the circuits are also SPHERICAL. This is an important understanding and there are individuals on these boards who relate to same from, or through, the implosive/explosive ramifications of Viktor Schauberger and/or the implications of Space/Counter-space concepts of Tesla experimenter Eric Dollard - which can also be researched via the Endothermic/Exothermic qualities of "Cold electricity". By all means do keep that as a working principle.

For several individuals, myself included, plasmoids impress as being the nearest probable example of a star. The Cosmos ‘sheaths’ the formation of Its plasmoids with a variety of states of matter, bidirectional electric currents and their “drifts”, gravitational, magnetic, and electric potentials etc. It does so naturally. On the other hand, whether within ‘open’ or ‘closed’ environments, humanity’s scientific efforts to likewise initiate, observe, test, measure, and duplicate plasmoids demands physically ‘closed’ environments.

As known plasmoids are lethal to the human condition (naturally occurring ball lightning, or homemade Microwave plasmoids for example). Save by chance encounters (Source) there exist no other way for humanity to scientifically study plasmoids than to construct devices to contain them.

As a side note: This does present a related challenge using the same “open” versus “closed” language. It is a challenge that has always faced Electrodynamic Theory which treats all systems as balanced and ‘closed’. The reason the challenge exist is because under ‘closed’ system treatments there exist no room for influences from what Nikola Tesla supposedly referred to as input “received from the environment”.

"There is no energy in matter other than that received from the environment." – Tesla

Needless to say; there are lots individuals who understand the distinction between physically needing to ‘close’ an environment for safety and to produce the desired effects versus theoretically treating systems as ‘closed’. Here is one of my personal all-time favorite examples of both spherical and toroidal plasmoids induced within a system that may be considered as physically ‘closed’ (within the ‘sheath’ of a bottle) yet simultaneously “open” to the influences of Tesla Physics providing ‘external’ energy input:

Artificial ball lightning in a vodka bottle

Can stars share this seeming dual “open”/”closed” principle? Absolutely. However, it is only “open” versus “closed” to linear thinking. Dr. Michael Clarage just touched on this in a recent Space News at the two minute mark saying:

“… but mainstream cosmology assumes that every star in our galaxy is isolated from every other star. Like our picture of a medieval lord each isolated star creates its own energy only from within itself.” - Space News - Stars: Electrically Connected and Externally Powered

To me both approaches are incorrect. In my humble mind stars are not exclusively internally "powered" nor are they exclusively externally “powered”. Sometimes theories don't seem capable of wrapping their fertile mind around the concept of a Simultaneity of events. All systems “receive” energy, all systems internally transduce energy, and all systems “emit” energy; Simultaneously at once.

Choosing an either or scenario is merely to present a case of “Which came first..?” between chicken and egg. Likewise with “open” versus “closed” systems. Both dynamics are simultaneously active. Sometimes in synchronous simultaneous harmony; sometimes not. I think that scientist know, in no uncertain terms, that Nature still leads the way.
"Our laws of force tend to be applied in the Newtonian sense in that for every action there is an equal reaction, and yet, in the real world, where many-body gravitational effects or electrodynamic actions prevail, we do not have every action paired with an equal reaction." — Harold Aspden
