How About that VSL Theory?

Beyond the boundaries of established science an avalanche of exotic ideas compete for our attention. Experts tell us that these ideas should not be permitted to take up the time of working scientists, and for the most part they are surely correct. But what about the gems in the rubble pile? By what ground-rules might we bring extraordinary new possibilities to light?

How About that VSL Theory?

Post by VeldesX » Thu Jul 16, 2009 1:33 pm

Joao Magueijo wrote a book called Faster Than the Speed of Light featured at http://www.amazon.com/Faster-Than-Speed ... 0738205257

Now, I first heard of variable speed of light almost 20 years ago, when I read a book on creationism. Therein the author contended that the early universe (in his case, a couple of thousand years ago) had almost infinite speed of light and since then, its been slowing down. He gave no explanation. And I haven't read of such an idea since then, until today.

Typically, the reviews of Magueijo's book avoid all discussion of VSL, no theory, no math, nothing more than hype questions like "Is Magueijo the next Einstein?" "Is Einstein wrong?" "What did Einstein like to have for breakfast?" "Why does Magueijo have a hate complex toward Einstein and Einstein's Einsteinian successors?" "Einstein!! Einstein!!"

I can only assume Magueijo's theory is that mass has a direct consequence on the speed of light, and the more the universe expands, the slower light will move.

As to what the truth of VSL is, that is probably left to Magueijo's sequel.
