tsunami sparks

tsunami sparks

A current series on BBC2 (much of it shown previously) refers to documentation of the 1607 English flood. An eye-witness account is said to refer to 'sparks coming from the advancing wave'.
It is asserted by the program makers that 'this is characteristic of tsunami'.

This would seem to fit nicely with the elecrical phenomena associated with tornados. I find it hard to believe that this is piezo charge from the ocean bed fault release, choosing to arc to air rather than dissipate through salt water, so what is going on?
